Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis held a press conference at the Retro Fitness gym in West Palm Beach on May 20, 2022 to announce the largest budget surplus in the state’s history. The state has access to $20 billion USD for the 2022 fiscal year.
He also announced that Florida is registering almost 45 percent of the market share of overseas traveling, the highest rate in the country and the highest ever recorded, beating out New York which previously had the highest numbers.
DeSantis went on to announce the jobs report for April, with the unemployment rate in the state being 3 percent, which has been lower than the national average for 17 consecutive months.

How many politicians can say that right now? The best Governor in our country. Future best President.
Nobody in their right mind visits New York.
Unless you want to get mugged or shot dead of course.
Run a state well and you reap the benefits..
CLOSE CALL!
Ron DeSantis (R) - 49.9 percent
Andrew Gillum (D) - 48.8 percent
It was noted that DeSantis garnered 85% of conservative votes.
I certainly hope he was paying attention to the DC Uniparty (R) scuttling of MAGA. DeSantis will need to fire everyone he can legally fire at the State Departnent, FBI, CIA, NSC and most US attorneys. If he allows the conniving, back stabbing DC GOP Judases into his administration he’ll be cooked just like Trump was.
A state budget surplus is a statement that the people have been overtaxed. Kudos to DeSantis and I hope the surplus announcement is coupled with a big tax cut. I’m guessing it will.
Close enough statistically to steal.
Hope FL had good election controls so Palm Beach doesn’t ‘legally’ vote 200% of its population.
Is there ANYTHING he can’t do right?
I realize that this number is skewed by the canuck snow birds, but even so, it is amazing that a single state can garner this amount of overwhelming foreign travelers.
And disney is going to go head to head with this guy?
Good grief.
Florida just announced a tax cut on gasoline that will kick in later this year.
“ Ron DeSantis (R) - 49.9 percent
Andrew Gillum (D) - 48.8 percent”
As a former resident of Florida, I held my breath and prayed hard for that out come. Best vote I ever cast was for DeSantis.
TN often has a surplus ...
its given back to the TN residents ...
Odd that how it only happens in red state4s ...
2021 into 2022 hasn’t been great for NYC, but NY had a lower crime rate than FL over the previous 10 years:

In answer to whether there’s anything Gov. DeSantis can’t do right, mostly not, but he appointed the wrong judge in our county, doing a political favor. I was so hoping he would choose the better candidate. He had his reasons—needs to keep the legislature on his side.
When Rudy was running NY everybody went there. Everybody felt safe. Great leadership that cares for the safety and prosperity of its citizen is a great thing.
Hopefully he continues his good trend and manages that surplus by reducing the tax burden on the residents.
Can pay off that Disney bond for one.
New York is often a stopping off point for international travelers. Tampa International, Miami, and even Orlando have seen wild increases in passenger traffic during COVID, which I suspect is what “beats out” Zoo York.
Good, he can lift the tolls off the highways, finally.

Florida’s state budget surplus is due to a generation of tight-fisted GOP budget writers, a lack of recent hurricane hits, burgeoning sales tax collections, and an accumulation of unspent COVID funds. With federal COVID funding a one time bounty, the national economy slowing, and hurricanes a regular menace, Florida is unlikely to cut its state sales tax. Florida will keep current taxes in place and will devote most of the current surplus to unfunded state pension obligations, adding to the state’s rainy day fund, and covering a range of unmet needs, such as property insurance reform, road projects, and hurricane preparation.
