Day 1 of the Michael Sussmann Trial
technofog.substack.com ^ | 5/17/2022 | technofog

Posted on 05/17/2022 8:10:20 PM PDT by bitt

It started with disclosure by Special Counsel DeFilippis informing the Court that government witness Dr. Manos Antonakakis (identified as Researcher-1 in the Sussmann indictment) “has decided to invoke his Fifth Amendment right.” He would not be called to the stand. More background on Manos here.

From there it was time for opening statements.

Special Counsel Brittain Shaw made clear that this case is “about privilege: the privilege of a well-connected D.C. lawyer with access to the highest levels of the FBI; the privilege of a lawyer who thought that he could lie to the FBI without consequences.” Using that privilege, Sussmann:

“went straight to the FBI general counsel's office, the FBI's top lawyer. He then sat across from that lawyer and lied to him. He told a lie that was designed to achieve a political end, a lie that was designed to inject the FBI into a presidential election.”

Circumventing the political leanings of the jury, the Special Counsel explained that “we are here because the FBI is our institution that should not be used as a political tool for anyone.” She elaborated that Sussmann, on behalf of his clients - the Hillary Clinton Campaign and Rodney Joffe - planned to manipulate the FBI, and trigger negative news stories, “to create an October surprise on the eve of the presidential election.” As to the evidence:

You're going to see emails and phone records that show that beginning in the summer of 2016 the defendant worked with Fusion GPS to develop the Trump/Alfa story and plant it in the press.

She also gave us this preview:

Hung jury, if not outright acquittal is my prediction. Too many Clinton donors on the jury pool that the Obama judge let on while denying admitted Trump supporters, let alone donors, to even get to voir dire.

The part I find the most troubling is that our institutions of law enforcement and justice found no duty to correct any record they knew was wrong and would continue to be advanced at all levels of media and government against a sitting president? It's like trying the railroad conductor who drove the trains to Auschwitz because he said the concentration camp was just a shower stop while all of the German generals go scott free and collect a pension, while Hitler lives on Maui after the war.

That is the extent the Beltway bureaucrats have destroyed our public trust in government.

I agree. I wonder why Durham didn’t go for a change of venue.

If the FBI, DOJ et.al. were just doing their due diligence by investigating an allegation why did so many upper echelon staffers (Page, Stzrock etc.) fired/resigned? Will they be getting their jobs back once this whitewash is complete?

How much of this testimony will be understood by the jury? Were jurors required to show knowledge of computer technology and terminology?

Based on my time in D.C., I do too.

Yes, it doesn’t look good. Is there a lot of stuff going on, that I don’t know about? Is a charge of lying, by one dirt bag, all they have managed to find so far?

It doesn’t make sense unless he tried and it was denied.

Durham is running out the Clock.

His theory is absurd.

Piddly one count charges numerous years later.

Federal Prosecutors just aren’t this timid. The Get Trump Op Decision makers have all received Book or network deals and have been protected the whole time.

Way to go! You throw the book at that one low level scapegoat. Justice has been served!

A reporter on Jesse Watters’ show mentioned the volume empathetic Clinton supporters during jury selection. Mafia 101.

This is part of the biggest story of the 21st century. A concerted, coordinated effort to interfere with the lawful election of a United States President.

You would think that this trial would be covered in depth by the media. However, the media was in on the con. Conveniently, the press will talk about Johnny and Amber. And America will be distracted.

The NYT head: Clashing Views of Cybersecurity Lawyer as Trial in Special Counsel’s Case Opens

The Boston Globe head: Clinton campaign lawyer sought to ‘use’ FBI, prosecutor says

From the NYT article In her opening statement, Ms. Shaw told the jury that Mr. Sussman had represented the Democratic National Committee when it was hacked in the spring of 2016, but she omitted the fact that Russia was the perpetrator.

Mr. Bosworth, by contrast, emphasized to the jury that the onset the events took place “at a time when questions were swirling about Donald Trump’s connections to Russia.”

The hacking of the DNC was no crime, regardless of who did it and Trump had no ties to Russia. Just sayin.
