Almost all “conservative” pundits frequently - without hesitation and without qualification - use the abominable term, McCarthyism: as usual, they accept the terms of the debate dictated from the left.

When the MSM switched Reagan’s winning “Blue” states to Republican “Red” states, the Democrats became encouraged and super-aggressive. (No longer having the Communist “Red” associated with their Commie methods).
Since the rest of the world knows what “Red” represents, this needs to be flipped back.

It certainly was/is an important one. If only it were required reading in public school.
The whole left, right thing misses a huge part of the picture, which is the ruling class vs everyone else. The current jihad against free speech is not a left vs right thing but more about “Rome on the Potomac” maintaining a lock on absolute political power.
While the concentration of power has always been a dream of the left, the ruling right are just as terrified by the thought of an actual federal system of government and any kind of populist impulse.
As far as they are concerned, anything from the people is “literally Hitler”. A phrase they used nonstop to describe Trump’s rallies and popular appeal. Both the ruling left and right are absolutely appalled by that phenomenon and see it unequivocally as a 1930s Germany moment. They, without a scintilla of irony, see their own absolute power as the only solution to their own terror inducing delusion.

Having the position that the federal government has its fingers in places not authorized by the constitution is viewed as sedition, and few politicians on the right go there.
Separate but related, both parties are active in marching the US into globalism. “America first” is a minority position among the politicians, and is anathema to the ruling class of lobbyists and unelected bureaucrats and experts who actually run things.
E.g., borders are open because a majority of Congress wants the borders to be open. Immigration is broken, same reason.

I think you are right. We need to keep working to push out establishment Republicans who are nothing more than assistant democrats. They, too are evil and insidious. It is looking more and more like we the people will have to rise up against the Deep State.
You'd think "gay rights" had always existed and that suddenly a few years ago for the first time in history some "weirdos" popped up and wanted to take them away. This is inverted history, but the entire Left is all about inversion.
