Maybe I missed something... What did we do to effect the demise of the Bismarck?

We seem to be seeing a similar thing in Ukraine (in a much reduced scale). The Russian technology, industrial power, and tactical acumen, is a war behind what they face in the modern weaponry, tactics, intelligence, and cyber technology the Ukrainians have mustered, even though much of it is from the West. (And the West has a huge advantage in technology and industrial power, compared to the Russians).

It is worse than that for the Russians, they are fighting this war using tactics from the 1960's and weapons that are at best from the 1970's. While the Ukrainians are using much of the same equipment, with training from the US and some off the shelf drone tech to devastating effect.

I think Russians just endure.

I think you are correct.

Where this will go? Who knows?

No one predicted what happened in WWI. The result were an unexpected disaster.

Predictions on what WWII meant were generally far off of what happened.

Stalin is said to have been surprised they won. (at lest at one or more points).

As far as I can see, Stalin was perhaps the most effective, brutal, and personally nasty leader in WWII.

Almost certainly a sociopath. But he saw the war clearly (after he recovered from Hitler betraying him before he could betray Hitler).

How is all that stuff gonna get there from Germany, Poland, or the Black Sea, let alone from the US?

Vlad started blowing up the railroads about 15 minutes after Austin and Cupcake left town. It will take months to ship stuff there via the Black Sea.

Russia has the advantage of much shorter supply lines, it would seem.

“Hitler tried to keep us out of the war. Raeder and Doenitz repeatedly tried to get permission to fire on American ships. They both knew that we had a hand in sinking the Bismarck and that we were escorting UK bound convoys almost to Iceland. Hitler ignored them.”

Tell that to the US Merchant Marine.

From the US Merchant Marine history:

“The Germans and Japanese sank six ships manned by the US Merchant Marine in 1941 before Pearl Harbor, making mariners some of the first American casualties of the growing global conflict.”

Turkey's Erdogan has said "Nay" to this proposition. He ain't getting his country involved.

There's already the issue of the drones - and the Russians don't forget.

But he saw the war clearly

Easy to do when you have almost endless cannon fodder.

Stalin was a vicious sociopath arsehole who died in his own excrement, I'm happy to say.

Russia wants no part of the US/NATO. As Russians and Arabs do, they will bitch and moan, and do little to stop it.

Putin is in no position to expand his war.

He is dead politically. Soon, he will be dead literally.

Vlad started blowing up the railroads about 15 minutes after Austin and Cupcake left town.

It is unclear how effective the Russians will be at interdicting European transport to the Ukraine.

We simply do not know how effective they will be. It is a valid question.

From previous wars, it is difficult to predict. There is also the potential (seems to be happening) for Ukraine to interdict supplies coming from Russia.

Points worth pondering.

For example, anti-aircraft munitions and anti-tank weapons are much easier to transport than tanks and armored personnel carriers.

They are killing this forum and will gladly kill anyone who disagrees with them in order to feel virtuous.

News flash: nuclear fallout will not discriminate. Economic destruction means all assets will be worthless. Everyone’s children/grandchildren/*fur kids* will be sacrificed on the altar of the current thing.

Those quick to other anyone disagreeing with them need to check if they have passes to the elite bunkers. If not, they are simply agitating for their own destruction while those that do haven’t thought through the logistics of getting to *safety* in time amid chaos.

I agree.

He was able to muster the forces and win the war against Hitler, at unbelievable cost.

Ukraine is facing an existential threat from Russia.

Russia is not facing an existential threat from Ukraine.

Well, no matter how many times you try to pimp this Russian propanganda website that actually uses the Russian imperial double-headed eagle as its logo, it doesn’t make this garbage true.

What did we do to effect the demise of the Bismarck?

It was an American plane PBY-5 and an American pilot (a British pilot was in charge, at least nominally) who spotted the Bismark.

I read a couple of Weinberg’s books years ago; the one I particularly remember is the one he wrote with Hugh Trevor-Roper, one of my favorite historians.
