His quote about how he felt relief when he managed to get his army on the same side of the river as the enemy below Vicksburg was an amazing peek to his determination to bring the fight to the southern army. Even his friend WT Sherman had doubts about that plan until he finally admitted the genius of it all...to Grant Himself.

My ancestors who fought were honorable men. You sure don’t sound honorable to me. But whatever— I guess as a Southerner born and bred, I am not welcome on threads celebrating Yankee murderers like Grant. Goodbye.
