The information war continues raging…. On one battlefront we have Elon Musk trying to push back against quasi-government control mechanisms that constrict information and the flow of discussion and ideas. On a lesser, albeit similar battlefield, we see this. DuckDuckGo used to be the preferred search engine for those who wanted privacy on-line and unfiltered, ie organic, search engine responses. Unfortunately, CEO Gabriel Weinberg is now stating he will change the algorithm to remove independent information and media outlets and will replace them with only approved MSM results.
“Like so many others I am sickened by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the gigantic humanitarian crisis it continues to create. #StandWithUkraine️,” Weinberg tweeted on Wednesday. “At DuckDuckGo, we’ve been rolling out search updates that down-rank sites associated with Russian disinformation.”
Riddle me this my friends: The White House has officially admitted to creating misinformation, disinformation and malinformation as part of their strategic campaign against Russia in Ukraine. NBC news gleefully embraces the strategy {SEE HERE}. However, the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has an official agency mission {SEE HERE} to “help the American people understand the scope and scale of Mal, Dis, and Misinformation activities,” and Google/DuckDuckGo/Big Tech have officially aligned with both U.S. government interests, promising to target, remove and penalize any entity engaged in Mal, Dis and Misinformation activities.

Brave is not a search engine
Startpage use to let you do very specific searches.
They stopped it a few years ago.
Miss it.
Built a better Algore Rhythm.
Thanks looks like Brave may be the way to go.
Look upthread. They apparently have one in Beta, now.
Someone has to do it at every company. Facebook tries to rely on outside parties to make it look neutral but most of them have some type of algorithm to do it.
It's going to happen and I think the best we can hope for is transparency so we can see what criteria are being used and choose our providers from there.
They have both a browser and a search engine - at least for iPhone
It’s not like had a huge base to alienate.
Typical out-of-touch idiot.
Duck Duck Gone.
Brave and Startpage!
Is it Stunning and Brave, or merely Brave?

I had used DuckDuckGo for over 5 years. I dumped it a few months ago after this news first came out. Went back to Google.
What I started noticing with DuckDuckGo was the down listing/ranking of regular everyday stores. For instance, if I directly typed in Kroger’s, then there would be 3 or 4 other grocery stores listed before the Kroger’s results. Tell me someone is not manipulating those results.
Brave +1 - the best!
To those using DuckDuckGo like I used to a few years ago, I recommend Brave search. I also use the Brave browser.
It sure is interesting.
It was pure awful anyway.

I’ve noticed that too, but I don’t think it’s just DDG.
I think businesses pay to have their sites made prominent. I don’t know if they pay a service, or pay the company that runs the search engine. But I’ve thought it’s something like those services that promise to clean up your online reputation if, for instance, there have been complaints against you...
