Nuclear War Is on the Horizon
Based Underground ^ | April 10, 2022 | Paul Craig Roberts

Posted on 04/10/2022 9:22:00 AM PDT by E. Pluribus Unum

Some readers have asked why Russia regards Finland’s membership in NATO as a provocation. For the same reason that Ukraine’s membership is a provocation: US missile bases on Russia’s border.

Editor’s Commentary: I have always appreciated Paul Craig Roberts’ perspectives. My conversations with him have shown me he understands geopolitics better than just about anyone I know. I do not agree with everything he posted in the article below from Free West Media, but I’m printing it anyway because it does shed light on the reality that we are closer to war with Russia than any time since the Cold War.

The best way we can contribute to preventing WWIII from happening (other than prayer, of course) is to pressure our elected officials to keep us as far away from the regional conflict in Ukraine as possible. We can help the suffering Ukrainian people, but military intervention of any kind is not in our best interests, nor will it help to save the people of Ukraine. It will only make matters worse and almost certainly result in a war scenario that nobody outside of the Military Industrial Complex or the Chinese Communist Party should desire. Here’s Paul’s article…

The US does not currently have hypersonic missiles, but will sooner or later. Such missiles on Russia’s borders could reach Moscow in 3 or 4 minutes, clearly an existential threat. Along with Finland, Washington wants the bases in Sweden and the Baltic states, and already has missile bases in Poland and Romania.

Whereas Washington intends Finland’s NATO membership as a new provocation, we must not forget two other existing provocations that the Kremlin has declared to be unacceptable: the existing missile bases in Poland and Romania.

It makes no sense for Russia to preemptively prevent missile bases...

At least it’ll get rid of rap music, so there’s that.

The Russians have hypersonics on their ships and aircraft. Should we demand that none of those be in range of Washington or New York and threaten to sink them if they are found there?

The whole notion that Russia is being "provoked" simply assumes that NATO is just as aggressive towards Russia as Russia is towards it: Putin is the one who violated the INF treaty by placing Iskanders in Kaliningrad, who violated the Conventional Forces in Europe treaty by building up his armed forces in western Russia and who has waged aggressive war in Europe for the first time since 1945.

Neither the Finns nor NATO are under any obligation to respect purported Russian "fears" that are simply an excuse for Russia to claim protectorates or to annex its neighbors.

Jesus said that what is coming upon this world would be so severe that unless He returned, “no flesh would be saved.” Not very promising or positive for this present world.

“So sick of these confused types always blaming everyone other than the criminal scum.”

I know—what is to be done about the one nation in history that actually did drop nuclear weapons on civilians....

True Biblical Scholars debate whether this is truly descriptive of Russia; and most modern scholars probably do not hold to these text as referring to Russia.

“The US has been provoking Russia for some time now.”

According to the Putinists, “provolking Russia” means not caving in to all of Putin’s demands.

What an asinine reply. The US was attacked by Japan, Japan was invading and slaughtering her neighbors.

Some of the Japanese and a few Freepers sing the same song about that as the Young Putineers. FDR forced Tojo to bomb Pearl Harbor! America bad!

What was NATO's defensive interest in Libya?

And then they let refugees flow through that newly-failed state into Europe.

Has nothing to do with that. Putin is a bad actor. So is Ukraine. So are the globalist in Europe. And unfortunately So are we. The masses around the world are being governed by corrupt evil leaders. This is an evil time we are living in.

Well, that’s a historical fact. Go ahead and mock it if you find the argument inconvenient to you.

It’s not inconvenient. It’s what happened. Four years after Japan started the war. Does that bother you?

I wasn’t talking about the A-bomb, I was talking about the fact that the oilembargo would predictzably lead to Jpapan’s aggressive actions, and it did. That’s a fact.

Let’s see, Japan invaded Manchuria a full TEN years before Pearl Harbor. Six years before any US sanctions. But yeah, okay it’s our fault.

What the fuck did that have to do with us?

I get it though: I want our government's security strategy to protect us from existential threats to its citizens; you want to play clever geo-political games based on phony made-up "national interest," or worse, international "ideals."

Guess what, the State Dept. isn't doing a damn thing to promote your "interest."

“THIS argument actually makes sense to me.”
Except that NATO is and always has been a DEFENSIVE alliance...a fact well-attested to by existing history.”

We know that but the Soviets and Russians are the ones who have to be convinced.

How does one pressure a congresscreep. Regular Americans are shit to them. Your letters mean nothing. Maybe angry crowds appearing every time they make a public appearance would make some impact. To do that requires a marshaling organization and the Willingness to get out in loud angry crowds. We hate this, all are training not to fight, not to be rude, not to be confrontational, is used against us
Until we can have an organization like the Sons of Liberty as a start we cannot begin to impart the elites. This means being willing to really fight or engage in mass civil disobedience.
