They are described as the best anti-ship missiles ever, and the UK is about to send its harpoon missiles to Ukraine to help combat Russian warships. The Harpoon is an all-weather, over-the-horizon, anti-ship missile developed and manufactured by Boeing Defence. The UK will send the Harpoon missiles in a bid to break the Russian navy’s siege of Black Sea ports.
Fitted with a 500lb high explosive blast warhead, the system is carried by 600 Nato warships and 180 submarines around the world.
The 15ft missiles are accurate to a range of 80 miles. Harpoon missile can be put on trucks alongside a relatively simple command-and-control apparatus.

Among other things.
Awesome.

You know, the urge to send weapons but claim you’re not going to war is a form of self delusion.
I know I know, you just want Ukraine to roll over and surrender...not happening.
Double good awesome! Send the invaders to hell.
This should end well.
Not.
What I find curious is why the US doesn’t send the missiles directly. The UK has them under license and can’t transfer them to Ukraine without explicit US consent.
Im sure we have nothing to worry about sending weapons to criminals in Ukraine.
I would prefer that the UK not announce this publicly. Let the Russian Navy find out after the fact that Ukraine has these weapons. It will also make them wonder what else the Ukraine forces have that the Russians don’t know about.
Aren’t proxy wars just grand?
And if Putin decides to use tactical nukes in retaliation for UK sent, American made weapons sinking Russian war ships, then what?
“Hmm... Well, sir,we didn’t think they’d do that. Oops.”
Harpoon came to the us fleet when there was still soviet surface action groups in the Atlantic. As an over the horizon weapon, you still wanted targeting unless you knew the bad guy was the only guy in the area. The concern with harpoon in the Black Sea will be the Ukrainians doing blind over the horizon point and shoot without some airborne targeting capability, and having the missiles hit non-com merchant ships.
If they only shoot at what they can see, then that’s ok, but the Russians can just stand off farther to remain out of sight.
I have an idea…the Russians can stop using their ships as missile platforms and go back to port.

War, war , war….seems every bad Vlad war cheerleader is willing to fight Ivan with someone else’s soldiers….they will fight Vlad down to Ukraine’s last soldier.
If this weapons transfer goes like the Javelins, Ivan will most certainly capture more than a few high tech anti-shipping missiles.Do remember, Kadyrov thanked Biden personally for the Javelins they were able to capture.
Isn’t Ukraine using the Starlink Internet access provided by Elon Musk to target armored columns, if they are why couldn’t they be used to target Russian Ships.
No, this is not a problem. The UK also sent a box of Russian stencils and some spray paint.
They’ll be able to fire them indiscriminately in all directions and make a news story out of whatever happens.
What I find curious is why the US doesn’t send the missiles directly.

What I find curious is the large amount of “ F” model Javelins Ivan captured. Our F models are the latest models, specifically specified as prohibited from export. The Ukies were to receive the older models.
Truckloads of F Model Javelins were captured by Russian paratroopers around Mariupol, put on display, and not a word from western MSM or Pentagon. Something stinks.
Good point. I heard these Harpoons have little antennas that interface directly with Starlink so Zalinsky can steer them with a joystick to put warheads on foreheads.
Bulldog away!!!
If they have UAVs that can target for them, yes. That may be a stretch in range for them. The battle field ones are usually shorter range, but I don’t know. There are hundreds of UAV models out there.
