Uncle Eddie approves.
The ugly truth is that the dealers can’t service them. Bought a new Sprinter by Keystone from a dealer in Calera AL last May. I have two warranty items outstanding waiting on parts and currently on a trip...ac isn’t cooling...new problem. Appt 4/7 to take it in...they will “diagnose” the problem and submit to Keystone for approval...then order parts. Total BS bureaucracy. Have a month long trip planned for May and its looking like it won’t happen. DON’T buy a new rv if you have a working rv.
I’d rather get a truck camper or a Class B. Something that’s small but still roomy. I’m not a rock star, I don’t need a big ass bus or Class C.
Forest City in North Iowa.
Near Mason City Airport.....last exit for Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, Richie Valens from Mason City airport, and a snowy February night.
After their February 2, 1959 performance in Clear Lake, Iowa, three of the stars — Holly, Richardson, and Valens — boarded a three-passenger plane. The plane took off in the early morning hours of February 3 for Fargo, North Dakota but soon crashed in a snow storm.
My mom and dad lived in several from a 32 footer ending in a 42 ft Holiday Rambler. They sold everything and did RV for nearly 15 years. They loved it and were broken hearted when they had to finally sell it and moved into an apartment in their early 80s. RV life just got to be too much work for them.
when we retired Mrs Afterguard and I thought about buying one but after a couple of years nendednup putting In a pool instead. Haven’t looked back.
*ended up* sheesh.
Funny. When we had 4 small children about 1980, we had a 19’ RV.
One week in it and my wife said “NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER AGAIN!” “I cook, I clean, I sweep, I make beds, IT IS NO VACATION!”
When I retired about 10 years ago, I wanted to get a large Class A motorcoach.
My wife went through the roof. Everything short of divorce was possible if I had insisted.
I got the message.
BUT, we traveled separately staying with our son & his 2 little girls last year in their RV, and guess what? We loved it! Will do again ASAP. But all the work is on my daughter-in-law and she seems to love it. She’s young.
Great story!!
How wonderful that your dear DIL enjoys doing all of the upkeep.
Again….treasured memories, as you know.
Keep a journal of your travels!!
Like most things in life, it’s a matter of priorities. RV life provides mobility, Independence and adventure. But, that comes at a price.
As does all choices in life. It is wise to consider others advice. But ultimately, choose what works for you and your priorities and pleasures in life.
#47 Ernest Borgnine owned a bus he drove across the country. He left his wife at home most times.

We’ve lived in our 25’ travel trailer for a month - no problem. But only in mild temps. Kind of nice to live simply and realize that you can be content with very little in the way of amenities.
Prior to covid, the quality of the top name brand units got really good. Then covid hit, the best materials used to construct them got hard to find, and people who knew how to do quality build work left the industry. I bought a 2019 model new, and it's as tough as nails with no problems so far. We travel extensively in it, and rode out the sub-zero winter last year in Texas in it. But, you couldn't give me anything built during the pandemic.
Just your car if you tow. No big deal if your not going far. We own one and take short 4 day trips. No big issue.
It’s not like one takes a 3000 mile trip. Some Retires take small trips to nearby states or to the ocean. We prefer an RV to a hotel room especially with Covid at least your in your own home.
And many families are buying in to live full time. Some people get a piece of land in a war state and park the RV there. Cheap living.
War state??
I can see why that would be cheap living.
Love you wood on yours.Mine looks similar to yours but I have dark wood and no Lights hanging down by my sink. But floor plan is close.
Yep, it is our little 2nd home. Who said you can’t have a home on wheels.
Well most RV’s go Glamping
Ours is a few years old . My husband just put a heater in the bedroom with the AC. WE have a fireplace in the living room and heat with the AC in the kitchen. No issues yet. No problems with the toilet or shower.
I lived in a 32’ travel trailer while I was going to college. I think the biggest issue it had mechanically was the heater thermocouple died.
Skyline’s design and quality control was another matter.
How do you weld the spring hangers in the wrong place, drag it to the dealer 250 miles away, and not notice one side is sticking out better than a foot as it goes down the road?
How do you think a 1/4” gasket is going to seal a window mounted in corrugated metal with 3/4” ribs?
Why use a crash axe to cut the holes where the pipes come through the bottom?
So what if you can find the parts online quicker. Maybe they can get it done before your trip. I know I went through that with Maytag. They could not find a part and my husband found it online and they said buy it and they would pay us for it as it was under warranty.
Never know unless you try. And be a Squeaky Wheel. I never shut up until I get my way!
The insurance on a Class A is Astronomical! WE met people at a RV park who traded their Class a for a light weight and were so happy they did not have to pay the $300 a month insurance anymore.
