In Bloomberg Opinion’s world, inflation would hurt Americans less if they simply took the bus, ate lentils and let their pets die from cancer. The poor need to behave, after all.

I would rather take a bus in Africa than in the USA. When a Negro in America calls himself "African", it is an insult to real Africans.

I think we need to track down the author of that post and feed them to our pets when they get hungry. Here, stand behind this ornery and ill mannered horse - pull his tail and see what happens

Gold wouldn’t be enough. The world has 2.5m ounces of gold which, at today’s price of $1960/oz equates to $5 trillion.
Not quite enough
If we use some other metals and possibly a basket of commodity goods the going value of which would be the basis for a general currency. The other items in the commodity basket could be other metals, oil, wheat, corn, lumber, etc etc.
While prices on individual items may fluctuate, the overall basket value should remain relatively stable (similar to a mutual fund or index)

YouTube has enough footage of Simba attacks on mass transit to basically set the whole “take the bus” concept back a whole generation. Not to mention it would take me nearly 2 hours to get to work on the but verses 25 minutes driving myself.

Welcome to FR jeff.
I like lentils. With onions and Syrian bread. With grilled lamb and goat too. Some hummis and sweet tea to round it up.
Are you prejudice against people who like lentils?
Come clean, you don't like people who eat lentis.
I'm hitting the abuse button...

Yes, there is that as well (time = money); as more people commute from one suburb to another (instead of working in a city), the mass transit options are far fewer.
