This is nothing new. Also, anyone with half a brain knows that one of the holdups to NATO membership for Ukraine was always going to be starting off with internationally recognized and accepted borders. Until the issues of Ukraine and the Donbass were resolved, Ukraine had no chance.
Actual membership in NATO for Ukraine was always just a red herring. What Russia really wants is a recognition that all of Eastern Europe is within its "sphere of influence", and that nothing should happen there without its say-so.
