New Reports of U.S. Boots on the Ground in Ukraine Doing ‘Operational Prep of the Battlefield’

There are new reports about U.S. special forces operators who are doing “operational prep of the battlefield” in Ukraine.

Seth Harp, an investigative reporter and contributing editor to Rolling Stone, revealed the JSOC operations on Sunday.

“US special operators are currently on the ground in Ukraine doing ‘operational prep of the battlefield,’ according to a well informed source,” Harp reported citing a ‘well informed’ source. “The military unit is JSOC’s Advance Force Operations, including members of Delta Force and SEAL Team 6.”

The developments are concerning to Americans who want to avoid entanglement in a foreign war, but Harp cautioned readers not to necessarily presume this is an “escalation.”

I tend to agree with Reston. Kruschev would never have tried to put nukes into Cuba if he hadn’t thought JFK was weak.

I agree that LBJ expanded the Vietnam war manyfold. His tapes are replete on what he did and why he did it.

But JFK cast the die and took us to the point of no return.

Unfortunately if that is occurring it’s a declaration of war against Russia.

Which is worse if the go small tactical nuke against NATO?
Blinking and surrendering territory and populations or responding in kind and threatening the use of the strategic ones?
Terrible choices but part of the job.
Sometimes you make a stand and live (or not) with your consequences.
I think we are really there and now.
Feel free to please change my mind.

“Let’s hope to god this is wrong.”

Naw. No one’s going to get their panties in a knot over this. Some guys going in to Ukraine to gather intel that will be used at higher levels makes a lot of sense. That way the Pentagon and White House can get a picture of what’s happening without depending on a media, Russian, or Ukrainian filter.

I assure you that right now the Russians have similar folks going into NATO countries to make similar assessments that hopefully someone in Moscow will pay attention to. If they get caught they’ll get escorted to the border of Kaliningrad or Belarus and sent across.

It’s just how things are done and in peaceful times we call such people ‘observers’ and voluntarily give them access to see things.

I know it sounds odd to say this but such things for the most part prevent wars.

If this even gets to a hint of truth for the Russians, we can expect a nuclear exchange.

Proposing we should return Alaska?

The only possible way Russia is a threat to the west is with his nukes. If he uses his nukes he knows absolutely and without question he will die and his country will be totally destroyed, as would America. We want to put NATO on his border 300 miles from Moscow. Conventionally, Russia has zero chance against a NATO conventional attack. He would be rolled over and pulverized. NATO could be in Moscow in two or three days. The only time the US faced a similar situation to Russia’s current one, the United States would have blown up the world to stop the same threat that you pooh, pooh Putin for even noticing. You attitude and DC’s, if acted upon, could very well kill everyone you have ever known. Over what? Nguyen Van Zelenskyy’s corrupt regime.

Uh-oh. Sounds like a big problem for the Ukes.

Look at the last three they advised. Afghanistan, Iraq & Vietnam.

Look out Zelensky!

i think of the ~16000 advisors as relatively small potatoes. it’s clear in historical record that jfk was winding down the war in late 1963, and in fact the usa troop count did reduce by ~1000 in december 1963, no doubt due to bureaucratic momentum that lbj could not change. if we were consisent with jfk’s oct, 1963 nsam 263, all troops would have been pulled out by 1965. in short, jfk was actively winding down us involvement, so it was not a slippery slope, at least as of nov 22, 1963. since jfk called for and accomplished reductions before the 1964-1965 troop buildup, it seems disingenuous to blame the massive consequences of the massive troop buildup and escalated role on jfk when in fact jfk was taken out of the picture, and lbj was in charge at that time. one possibility is that jfk died trying to reverse couse and implement peace. if that is considered part of the slippery slope then the blame lies elsewhere, unless we consider jfk indirectly responsible for his own assassination..

Moving NATO to Russias doorstep was a huge miscalculation. Do you think Russia stops at Ukraine if we do not stop him there?
Or does it embolden dreams of putting a post Soviet empire back together?
Acknowledging NATO membership dangling mistakes, where do we go from here.

The problem here is that Biden isn’t the one calling the shots.

***We’re already about 500 miles, in Estonia and Lithuania. Why this big INVASION worthy difference? It’s a bullshiite excuse.

They’ve been shelling and shooting into the Donbas daily for over 8 years. They’ve had plenty of combat experience.

When has he not kept his word?

Nuclear threats are not the words that anyone, not even a madman can keep. Ever hear of MAD? Before Putin pulls the trigger on a nuke war, he knows that it means the end of Russia and of him and of all his dreams. So, he's got just as much reason to fear a nuke was as the rest of the world. Besides, Putin is not the one that would pull the trigger and he's got generals that, hopefully, are not as insane as Putin. But, Putin is putin' on a good show, and people like you are falling for ti.

also it seems fairly clear from the record that multiple independent and divergent players were involved in driving us foreign policy wrt vietnam in the early 1960s. the usa was propping up the diem regime via advisors. diem was losing popular support. the cia recommended a coup and sought jfks approval. jfk approved but not the assassination of diem. ambassador lodge took the final call from diem to the usa asking what to do, but apparently did not relay diem’s concern to jfk, who was surprised by news of diem’s subsequent assassination by the coup leaders paid by the cia. the cia never presented the possibility of an assassination to jfk. this no doubt fed into jfks earlier belief that the cia was out of control. the assassination of diem deepened us involvement in vietnam. but it seems fair to say that jfk was not warned of contingencies and collateral damage by the cia when there were opportunities to do so. so the reponsibility for involvement in vietnam could legitimately be considered to be shared between the cia and their bedfellows in the pentagon, state department and so on, and jfk who evidently was not being kept fully apprised of matters under his nominal control.

“Make billions off of it”???

If we get into a shooting war with Russians, they won’t be making “billions” because they (and US) will be radioactive particles floating around the atmosphere at 50,000 feet.

We will all DIE.

There’s the truth.
