SPEAKING OF OUT-OF-CONTROL CRIME . . .

Today it was revealed that Amazon is closing its downtown Seattle office, with 1,800 employees, because of out-of-control crime. Among other recent victims of downtown crime was an Amazon engineer who was assaulted with a baseball bat near the office in late January.

To learn this story you had to go to the Daily Mail in London. As of this writing, the Seattle Times has nothing on the story at their home page or business page.

Here’s some of the Daily Mail report:

Amazon will relocate all 1,800 workers from its downtown Seattle office as the area continues to be plagued by crime in the woke Pacific Northwest bastion, where the police budget has been cut by $36million since 2019 – and now other businesses are starting to do the same.

Citing an increase in violent crime in the downtown Seattle area, Amazon made the announcement Friday that it would temporarily relocate its workers from their office at Third Avenue and Pine Street.

But the final straw for many businesses to move their employees from the area or close their doors was the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old Michael Delbianco on March 2 in the 1500 block of Third Avenue, which is near where Amazon’s office building is located.

Piroshky Piroshky bakery owner Olga Sagan, 38, made the tough decision to close her shop after the shooting. But said she constantly found the entrance blocked with drug users who refused to move – and she says the Seattle Police Department did nothing to help. . .

The McDonald’s on Third Avenue also closed for the safety of their employees.

Unbelievable....

That could explain Democrat cities cleaning out their homeless camps. Killing the tax base could be the motivtor.

Maybe they should pass a law that requires businesses to remain and stay open. sarc\

That McDonald’s on 3rd was always a rough spot going back to the early 2000’s. It was only open to 4pm and closed because staying open into the evening invited all of the wrong crowd. They even had a private security guard at the door during the day.

Between 2004 and 2010 I spent a lot of time in Seattle on consulting gigs, totaling up to over 2 years of time. It was a nice city back then.

Look for the follow up Articles of
“food deserts” and
“lack of employment opportunities” and
“Gov MUST do something about these”.

Maybe Seattle can just change the name to Baltimore West.

What does anyone think will prevent Seattle from looking like any one of dozens of other cities in the United States?

Starting decades ago, cities continue to fail at supporting people and businesses. The port cities just held on longer than others.

Economies are built on taking something from the ground (drilling, mining, lumber, agriculture, livestock), taking something from the sea (drilling, fishing), making it into something (manufacturing, fabrication, assembly), or shipping it somewhere else.

There are exceptions such as tourism, research, education, and receiving things shipped from somewhere else and distributing them.

What does Seattle have to offer?

In 2020 the democrats in Seattle allowed criminals to take over a portion of the city, which they named “CHOP.” The democrats gave the group moral and material support. “CHOP” called for defunding the police.

No one should be surprised at what happened.

“What does Seattle have to offer?”

coffee and grunge rock

I deal with a major forest products company out of WA state. About seven years ago they moved their corporate headquarters from Federal Way, WA to downtown Seattle.
At first their employees would take the train in and work from home one day/week. Since covid they all have been working remotely. None of them want to return to working in downtown.

“That could explain Democrat cities cleaning out their homeless camps.”

What are they doing with the homeless people? Where are they going?

Even if they decide to “clean up” the criminal element, what are they going to do with the criminals? Is there enough prison/jail space?

What happened to the good old “no loitering” ordinances in urban areas when I was growing up? It was their way of sweeping bums off the streets and send them packing. Destroy their cardboard boxes and force them into shelters. Yup, men’s shelters can be dangerous but better they are dangerous to each other than innocent citizens.
