At 09:00 LT (01:00 UTC) on Thursday, March 3, widespread power outages were affecting Taipei City, Kaohsiung City, Keelung City, New Taipei City, Hualien City, Keelung City, and Tainan City, according to Taiwan News.1
Many intersections have turned into chaotic scenes with traffic police quickly dispatched to direct vehicles, the outlet reported.
Firetrucks have been dispatched across the streets of many cities to deal with emergencies such as people being trapped in elevators.
Currently, whole districts of Tainan City and Kaohsiung City are suffering power outages, while rolling blackouts are also occurring in the central and northern parts of the country.
The nation's economic affairs minister, Wang Meihua, said the outage affected some 5 million households.2
Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen was set to meet the US ex-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo today. Ing-wen said that a scheduled live stream of her chat with Pompeo had to be temporarily canceled as a result of power outages.

CHICOM agents testing and demonstrating how they can knock out the grid if Taiwan and the US just dont give in the demands of the murderous criminal regime.
“Unexplained”,
just like the CommunistChina virus bioweapon.
Sorry Taiwan we’re all focused on saving Ukraine from that evil madman Putin. You’re on your own.
The blsckout was a simple component failure. Don’t you read the news?
China is going to retake that part of China. We will not fight WWIII over it. Trumpian tariffs and US economic brutality towards China was and is the only way to deter the CCP. Now that our new regime has destroyed that capability, Taiwan is a dead man walking. The South Koreans and Japanese had best take note for in reality, they are on their own as well. Japan and South Korea’s only hope to keep the Chinese at bay long term are independent Japanese and South Korean fingers on independent nuclear deterrent forces aimed at Beijing.
“... that part of China.”
?
You are taking the ChineseCommunisParty position.
The power grid had problems when Pompeo went to Taiwan. As I recall two high up State Dept. people were scheduled to go to Taiwan about this time.
“Sorry Taiwan we’re all focused on saving Ukraine from that evil madman Putin. You’re on your own.”
Smart of China, to test their capabilities PRIOR to taking action.

I’m taking the millennium of history’s side.
Taiwan is actually harder to take than most people realize. Mud flats along most of their western shores. Mountainous terrain inland. Shallow waters to the west make spotting submarines easy.
China may try to take Taiwan, but I expect they will punt and take Taiwan’s smaller islands, some of which are just outside of their mainland ports.
You saw yesterday how they’ll do it. Cut power and other utilities from offshore and starve them into some type Honk Kong accommodation that makes the transition as bloodless as possible. Dangerous as hell if the US Navy gets involved. Taiwan is certainly not worth fighting WWIII over but eyeball to eyeball confrontations can quickly escalate into open warfare, often accidentally.
About 5.49 million households yesterday lost power in one of the nation’s largest power disruptions since 2017 due to a switch malfunction at Kaohsiung’s Hsinta Power Plant (興達電廠), the Ministry of Economic Affairs said.
The incident sent the power plant offline, leading to a circuit malfunction at the Longqi Extra High Voltage Substation (龍崎超高壓變電所), which caused several power plants in the south to shut down.

Executive Yuan spokesman Lo Ping-cheng (羅秉成) said that the government had asked the ministry and Taipower to thoroughly investigate the cause of the outage.
The government would reprimand those responsible if the large-scale blackout was proven to have been caused by human error, Lo quoted Premier Su Tseng-chang (蘇貞昌) as saying.
Wang said that human error was to blame for the blackout and that the ministry would complete its investigation in three days.

The ChineseCommunistParty side.
By your stupid calculation China owns everything from HongKong to Borneo.
Taiwan represents 60% of the world’s computer chip production, so, yeah they are very important. Taiwan stated they would destroy all chip production if invaded.
Sandia Laboratoy is taking apart a transformer, I think they found electronics buried inside the transformer, that allow China to shut it off. There are 200 such Chinese made transformers over here, so that is a problem here, as well. Maybe, Sandia Labs will find out how prevent power shut off (or tell Biden how to cut power.)
China and Russia know they have a window of opportunity while the Democrat government is focused on its war against ordinary Americans.
Did China ever take Quemoy and Matsu? I remember in 1956 the Chinese were constantly bombarding them.
When we got our first TV the first news casts were about the Hungarian uprising and those two islands being bombarded.
