Star conductor and close friend of Putin dropped by his management ahead of deadline to speak out or be fired from Munich Philharmonic
Russia’s star conductor, Valery Gergiev, has been dropped by his management over his close ties to Vladimir Putin as he faces a looming deadline to publicly denounce the Russian president or lose yet another role in his rapidly crumbling career.
The 68-year-old Russian, an old friend and supporter of Putin, has faced increasing pressure to speak out against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine over the last week. He has been removed from performances around the world and faces more professional punishment if he does not condemn Putin’s aggression in the next 24 hours.
On Sunday, his manager, Marcus Felsner, announced he would be dropping Gergiev, who he called “the greatest conductor alive and an extraordinary human being with a profound sense of decency”, but who “will not, or cannot, publicly end his long-expressed support for a regime that has come to commit such crimes.”

While you berate “Russian culture” the world is waking up in Red China. Public denunciations have absolutely no place in any society that pretends to freedom.

What is a war criminal?? War is about killing people and breaking things. I didn’t know there was a legal set of rules for it. Perhaps you would like to revisit using nuclear weapons in civilians.
This idea that if anyone doesn't submit, or surrender, to whatever political position, justifiable or not, is in vogue is deeply troubling.
Submit to my mask mandate or vax mandate, or lose everything.
Denounce Trump or the J6 activists, or get canceled.
Support BLM, or face the wrath of the cancel lords.
If you don't tow the YouTube, Twitter or Google line, your voice doesn't count.
Don't publicly express hatred for Putin, lose everything.
There is a distinct pattern here that I think people should start to fear. I cannot recall a time ever where you had to publicly declare your political conformity on everything or else face personal destruction. Does anyone else find this disturbing?

Well, Sunshine, you don’t support mandated covid vaccines and half the country thinks that is a crime against humanity. So, you are guilty as charged.

If he denounces Putin because he is forced to, what difference does it make? Fire him or don’t fire him, but don’t force his speech.
