The warlord who runs Chechnya held a rally of an estimated 10,000 fighters who could be dispatched to Ukraine to take part in the invasion.
The servicemen gathered in the Chechen capital, Grozny, after Friday prayers in a show of strength by Ramzan Kadyrov, an erstwhile separatist rebel who became one of President Putin’s most loyal henchmen.
Addressing the uniformed men, Kadyrov, 45, said that fighters would serve in the “hottest spots in Ukraine”, and that he could muster 70,000 volunteers.
Video showed the Muslim fighters standing in serried ranks in a central square and crying in unison: “Allahu Akbar!”
Kadyrov said they would not be dispatched yet, but were ready to “fulfil any order”.

This is the problem everyone is ignoring while cheering the fact that the battle has been even. Even battles lead to more bloodshed, a war of attrition.

If Chechen troops get to the subway where civilians are in Kiev, it may be more merciful to set explosives to kill them quickly.

I might suspect the chechens, then, of wanting this gig to 1. get money 2. kill infidels and 3. sabotage the russkies.

Azov Battalion is a militia made up of actual Neo-Nazis who have conducted atrocities against civilians before. I’m not going to be cheering them on and I won’t be upset if they are wiped out like I would with the regular Ukrainian army.

Even if they were fully trained troops, how would Putin integrate them into the battle plan? Where would they fit into the command structure? Where is the transport and logistics need to supply and support them? They are 500 miles from the Ukrainian border - are they going to march on foot, or is transport available? Just getting them staged and organized would be a substantial job.
I think that’s all been solved since there’s already video of them in Ukraine.
Yes, I oppose boots on the ground but if Russia sends these terrible people into the Ukraine I might very well change my mind.
No cheering here. If it weren’t for the cold warriors, on all sides, with a stake in conflict we’d be allies.
Years ago I read a superb book about the 1945 fall of Berlin, ‘The Last Battle’ by Cornelius Ryan. The front-line Soviet assault troops were disciplined and professional.
But after them came all sorts of rabble. Many were conscripts drawn from Soviet minorities. It was those latter troops who did most of the murdering, raping, and looting. I suppose the Chechens would play that role in Ukraine today.
If Putin is aware of this, I wonder if he would care.
If this move gets any traction the blow back from the Russian people is going to be huge. Hell the blow back from the world will be huge.
Ukraine is accepting volunteers.
