The New York Times appears to be drunk on its hatred of American capitalism. The liberal rag stooped to burying its Marxist swipes at freemarkets in its — *checks notes* — crossword puzzle.
The 49th clue in the newspaper’s Feb. 22 puzzle read, “Vice encouraged by capitalism.” The pathetic answer: “Greed.” How clever. Did The Times consider the fact that it once courted hundreds of millions in bailout money from Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim Helu when its news operation was on the verge of financial ruin?
AQR Capital Management Managing Principal and Chief Investment Officer Cliff Asness slapped The Times on Twitter for embedding left-wing Marxist propaganda into its crossword puzzle: “Seriously NYT? The ridiculous opinion pages aren’t enough for you?”

“Vice encouraged by Socialism”
Mass murder
BIDEN
Huh? What? You mean the New York Times is ultra-liberal and prints communist crossword puzzles? I don’t believe it and will NEVER believe it! I am shocked and floored that anyone would make such an accusation against the venerable, distinguished New York Times!

Everything must be politicized and conform to the message/narrative.
That is why so many on the left are truly joyless lumps of misery and why they can not tolerate others who are happy.
Meh. Greed is the driver behind greed. It manifests itself in all “isms”. I’d say greed is the biggest driver behind socialism and communism. Envy is a close second.
Remember, to a liberal, the cure for your greed is to give the liberal your stuff.
oh I thought “antifa”
Vice encouraged by Communism. The proper answer: Covetousness.
I’d rather be a “bad” capitalist than any sort of “good” socialist, even someone who is into the welfare state.
Socialism makes people worse than they otherwise would be, the ideology behind it corrupts, always and without exception.
The NYT should not be operating within a capitalist society.
They should be operating in a country such as Cuba or Venezuela or China or N. Korea.
Or, they should declare themselves a non-profit organization, where they sell all of their news for zero or no profit. Profit is the product of capitalist ‘greed’, according to them. Salaries should be at the minimum level, and any profits should be given to charities. Moreover, they should NEVER contribute to any political organization or person.
Fine, then. If that’s what they want, then let’s give it to them. The NYT is now under the control of the Ministry of Truth. All articles must be submitted to the Censor of Articles for approval. The paper is owned by the government, since the government owns all the means of production. There is no stock. There is no stock market. There are no investors. Salaries are set by the Minister of Employment, and are a tad higher than those of factory workers.
That’s what they want, by calling for an end to capitalism.
I did the puzzle this morning as I do every morning. While I never bother to read the NYT - it's unreadable - they do have a great puzzle. Didn't think anything of that particular clue and solution.
Hopefully tomorrow they'll have a clue 'Vice encouraged by communism'....
Answer: MASS MURDER.
to a liberal, the cure for your greed is to give the liberal your stuff, so they can pass out 10% & keep the 90% for themselves.
Isn't that what the Clintoon did with their Haiti fund?
Thankfully monarchs, communists, socialists, fat farting potentates in the middle east, and authoritarian fascists are all completely immune from greed. A real selfless bunch they are....
Are you series? Are conservatives so soft we look for things to be offended by? 🙄
““Vice encouraged by capitalism.” The pathetic answer: “Greed.””
Sorry folks, don’t get your bloomers in a wad, but I find that a clever use of the phrase.
Crossword stuff is, in part, unlike this sentence, pithy.
Folks-of-a-certain-age know the movie.
Many have at least a background in faith and religious matters.
Tying them together is a clever use of the phrase.
More pithy? Clever.
Vice encouraged by socialism?
Tyranny
