A picture of Thermopolis students participating in an air rifle program caused some controversy online after it went viral last week, prompting the Hot Springs County School District No. 1 to remove the photo from social media.
Last week, the district shared a photo of some fifth- and sixth- grade students from Thermopolis Middle School working on their marksmanship with air rifles.
“Mr. Deromedi’s 5/6th PE classes are working on their marksmanship with air rifles!” the now-deleted post stated. “All students passed their safety test and have been sharpening their skills.”
Without explaining why the school district removed the post, Superintendent Dustin Hunt said he regretted that it was “found offensive by others.”
“As a small rural Wyoming community with a K-12 district of 681 students, we maintain social media pages primarily to celebrate our students and inform our patrons,” Superintendent Dustin Hunt said in a statement on Wednesday. “Our intent is to simply share the excellent work being done by our students and staff and we regret that any of our content is found offensive by others.”

Bureaucrats are cowards.
I saw that story and thought it was fantastic. Not as great as growing up in an area with an ROTC gun range in the basement of the school, but cool none the less.
And some pastel colored underwear person of dubious heritage has the audacity to say they were triggered by the photo.
Must stop grinding teeth.
In a sane world, the offended would be removed from the discussion. Instead the offendees are removed.
The ROTC at my high school had an actual armory and a shooting range. That stopped in my junior year. Up to my junior year you’d sometimes see pickups with rifle racks containing shotguns. That also stopped in my junior year.
COWARDS, such deserve no respect, deserve no merit. Only the scorn and derision reserved for the feckless observers to timid to live a life of value.
Leftists have infiltrated education everywhere. Thermopolis is a very conservative community. (Look at the demographics and voting results from previous elections.) Government schools need to be abolished everywhere.
Well I find the LGBT posts offensive - can we remove them from school posts?
It's also an Olympic sport. If the "offended" don't like it, let's remove all Olympic sports.
Same. In the 70s it was common to see gun racks on the back of student PU trucks. There was a ruckus about it at my HS and they made a proposal to store guns in a safe in the administration offices during class time. The issue was whether the gun were secure in the parking lot. Eventually they banned guns altogether.
That same HS was subject to a school shooting in 1992 resulting in 4 deaths and 10 injuries. Google ‘Lindhurst HS shootings.’
Who the eff lives in Wyoming and is offended by air rifles?
Lots of privileged-class live and own property in WY. Liberals are like dog poo - it’s everywhere.
Now wait a darn second here. Brandon reminded us those rights are NOT absolute. Wonder what the response would be if someone wanted to tinker with the, of say, the 13th or 19th amendments. Just sayin’...............
I learned to shoot in the Boy Scouts. A guy in our city built an eight station rifle range under his garage and driveway. We would go once a week as a group. And my dad would take us at least once more. A box of ammo was about 50 cents. I spent more lawn mowing money there than anywhere else.
Dear Hot Springs School District:
I find your wokeness and cowardice highly offensive.
Remove yourselves!!
What if that long blond haired person is a trans girl?
Can’t ban that!
Better to offend such people that even try to get along with them.
Marginalization precursor to genocide.
