So, the Russians AREN’T coming (never believed this anyway) ... back at home there’s still roaring inflation, supply chain at a crawl or not moving at all , southern border invasion, all the COVID issues (mandate rebellion, Dem govs giving us whiplash with their sudden reversals), polls lower than dirt, and on & on as FJB flushes the country down the toilet. So what wag the dog scheme will the Regime try next in an attempt to distract us all?

.... Well ... It Now sounds like Ukraine is strongly considering no longer joining NATO. And some sort of plan may have been worked out .... Under the plan according to the BBC, Russia would be allowed to station up to 30,000 troops in Ukraine, in order to assure the Russians that Ukraine would never be used as a vehicle of war against them. Ukraine would also pass a constitutional amendment forcing it to be a permanent neutral country and to cut all links with NATO.

.... You can bet that Biden and the Democrats will take credit for saving the planet from another world war by facing off with Corn Pop Putin ....

All Biden did was evacuate embassy staff and then run away.

And Sir Robinette bravely ran away.

“Putin is a lot of things, stupid isn’t one of them.”

Putin going along with Biden’s charade is probably going to benefit Russia and the Big Guy more than it benefits the US.

Unfortunately true, but so it goes. Most people just listen to the biased garbage on TV which seldom if ever gives you the truth and most papers are not a whole lot different. Let’s be glad we have Free Republic.

I think odds probably still favor an invasion.

I say that completely ignoring the inept senile hair-sniffer Brandon and the Obama apparatchiks running his administration, but rather just based on looking around the last couple of months in Russian and Ukrainian media online using Google translate. Surprisingly, there are Russian media sites operating online that are not pro-Putin.

I don’t think Putin cares about sanctions. I think whether he invades depends on whether he can convince enough of the Russian people that he is justified in doing so. The pro-Putin media is pushing hard the idea that Ukraine is killing Russians or about to kill Russians in Donbass, that Ukrainians are Nazis, etc. I’m not sure the Russian people are buying it.

There may be popular support for just rolling in the tanks and simply annexing LNR and DNR to Russia, as the situation is not stable with ongoing hostile action and casualties every week. But Putin may want the entire Donbass and also the coastline to connect Russia to Crimea. Or maybe he wants the whole of Ukraine, who knows. He really seems to hate Zelensky. I don’t think an invasion to take all of Ukraine or even all of Donbass would go over well among the Russian people if there are casualties.

I read a fascinating article, I can’t remember which outlet it was, a couple of weeks ago an independent Russian media website sent a couple of journalists down to the border with LNR/DNR. They were detained by the Russian military but let go after a while. The journalists described the area (in Russia) as a quasi-ghost town in which most of the young people had left quite a while ago and was mostly old people and Russian military and security personnel. And in LNR/DNR a lot of young people have left long ago, going to live and work in Russia or in the rest of Ukraine. The locals were speculating to these journalists that some Russian military activity might happen after Feb 20.

The biggest danger I think Putin sees is not so much NATO but the EU. Most Ukrainians want to join the EU and they believe they will be more prosperous and advanced joining the EU rather than being economically bound to Russia. Personally, I’m a Brexit supporter but I understand where the Ukrainians are coming from. Remember all of this started when the Ukrainians were about to sign an agreement with the EU and Yanukyvich at the last minute refused to sign on behalf of Ukraine, clearly on orders from Moscow. That started the revolt and brought in the Neocons and the grifter class Bidens, Pelousis, Romneys, etc., Russia helped organize resistance fighters in the Donbass, and that’s how they got to where they are.

Unless Putin playing along for some unknown reason , he can yank this out from under them overnight.

Zelenskyy did have an acting career prior to getting into Ukrainian politics. It'd sure be a hoot if he and Putin were to get caught in an "open microphone" incident, discussing how well the ruse worked to expose Biden's gullibility and dimwitted nature. *glasses clink*. I'm sure the Deep State thinks they can finagle this so it looks like Joe comes out on top, but ya never know...
