A Navy SEAL candidate died and another was hospitalized in California on Friday after completing a punishing test at the conclusion of an assessment period known as Hell Week, officials said.
Tragedy struck after the duo finished the SEALs BUD/S class, which includes basic underwater demolition, survival and other combat tactics, the Navy said.
Both Navy commando candidates were hospitalized. One died and the other was listed in stable condition at Naval Medical Center San Diego.
The class the duo completed is held in week four – and marks the end of the first phase of assessment and selection of the SEAL candidates.
Candidates in the first phase are vying to be selected for training within the Naval Special Warfare Basic Training Command.
The identity of the deceased candidate wasn’t immediately released by the Navy.
Before Friday, a SEAL candidate last died during the assessment phase in 2016.
James Derek Lovelace, 21, lost consciousness and died after an instructor pushed him underwater as least twice as he struggled to tread water in a massive pool.

Wait! What?
Never mind.
They push them to their limits.
If they would have been women there would be complete outrage with people going before military courts.
But because they’re only two men, nada
Gynosocieties only care about wimmin, and thats what America morphed into in the early 1900s
Vaxxed? C’mon, we’re all thinking it.
May GOD bless this young warrior.
May GOD bless his family and his loved ones.
What on earth are you talking about ?
.
Prolly a fatty
Study up
If they were simply held to the same standards as women Seals, the men wouldn’t even have to break a sweat, much less be dead now.
There are no "fatties" in BUDS. Passing the screening to get in requires exceptional fitness to begin with. Even with extensive preparation, most don't make it the first time. The instructor screwed up, and instead of pushing the man to his limits, he pushed beyond.

The instructor will get punished harshly. But here’s the thing about personal human limits. You don’t know you’re at it until you’ve just gone past it. “Oh man. I can’t deal. Well, yeah I could and did. But this, no. I can’t go any farther. But there I just did. Faceplant. Oh, that was my limit.”
I can remember many times in training where I thought I was at my limit but, nope. Still had a lot more to give.
And I was just a Marine. Not a SEAL doing commando-level training.
When training to fight in the water, it’s dangerous. There will be issues and casualties. “Shallow water blackouts” are also rather common in various military water training geared toward combat.
Very true, and the type of guy who applies for BUDS is highly unlikely to quit, even if well beyond their limit. Water is a very unforgiving training environment.
Lovelace, 21, ... died after an instructor pushed him underwater.” Suspicious. The instructor needs to be fired.
I know a few of the guys in this BUD/S group, and I can assure you, there’s nothing fat about them…
Thinking vaxxxxxination is the cause of death?
You can bet all you have and you can be sure you’ll win. Brandon ordered the military vaxxxxxed because it made the US military a dying corpse. The CCP will be in a position soon to finish the job.
Has this ever happened before?
Old bf of mine wantedt to be a Seal. Tall and thin, he swam miles in the frigid waters of San Francisco Bay every day. Good at that, but other requirements were too much for him.
Very few men can survive Sealhood.
cause of death? by any chance was it related to circulatory or heart issues?
RIP.
