The Pew Research Center survey found that only 34 percent of U.S. adults believe society is better off if "people make marriage and having children a priority," while 64 percent believe society is "just as well off if people have priorities other than marriage and children."
Yet among white evangelicals, 56 percent say society is better off with marriage and procreation being prioritized, while 41 percent say other priorities are fine. White evangelicals are the only religious subgroup with majority support for the marriage and procreation segment of the poll. Catholics (35 percent), black Protestants (36 percent) and white non-evangelical Protestants (35 percent) are all under 40 percent on that specific answer.
Among the religiously unaffiliated, 16 percent say society is better off with people prioritizing marriage and childrearing, while 82 percent believe society is just as well off with other priorities.
The poll also revealed a significant political divide: Republicans (50 percent) are twice as likely as Democrats (22 percent) to say society is better off prioritizing marriage and childrearing...
The survey was released around the time Pope Francis ignited a controversy by criticizing couples who choose to have pets instead of children....Yes, dogs and cats take the place of children," the Pope said. "Yes, it's funny, I understand, but it is the reality.

While consistent with evangelicals being the most conservative major religious group under title "Christian," only 56% of is sad.
The most important normative vocation of women is to bear and raise children (as a result of her union with her husband and leader the she helps), which she is uniquely designed to do.
Celibacy as a call is honorable, but The Pill as well as Abortion along with the fornication and feminism that they much foster has overall had a very negative effect.
Ben Watson of the NFL:
There are other major priorities we could talk about. It would be good to know what “other” priorities people have. We can all have a number of major issues we care deeply about, in addition to seeing marriage and family being a priority.
Something I’m also encouraged by is the growing resistance to divorce, and an emphasis on ministries specializing in the restoration of broken marriages, or encouraging cohabiting couples to marry.
Truth. Marriage & Family can become idols. As they are in Mormonism and other faiths and cultures...
Seek First the Kingdom of God.
I defy anyone to tell me, that if anyone can have the choice, they would not choose to have a loving Mother and a Father, and grow up in a normal nuclear family, over any other alternative.
This has been a standard in the Catholic Church for many years. My husband and our children lead a “Family Day” for a group of families before he died.
Our family as well as all the participating families benefitted greatly from it.
Marriage Encounter is one of those great resources. Weekends are also available in Spanish.
For everyone’s information — Marriage Encounter weekends are sponsored by the Catholic Church, but are open to couples of all faiths. It’s a very powerful weekend for a couple.
Didn’t adequately discriminate among Catholic sub-groups. Trad Catholics, quite adamantly, would insist on this as well.
Pretty short sighted.
I’ll just stick to economics and not mention religion.
Who is going to care for you when you are old?
Government? Funded by whom?
There is a practical side to having kids besides the
natural urges and “joys” of kids and grand kids.
At least identify if there regular church goers.
Works for me - as long as the Republicans are raising their children right and there are more of them than Democrats.
Raising children in THIS society?
If homeschooling on a big ranch in the wilds of Wyoming... maybe.
It is pervasive, though it does represent cultures. But then there is the White America black culture and that of African immigrants who has yet to become seduced with the destructive liberal victim-entitlement mentality.
Be interesting to see this poll done in other countries. For example, in Japan I’d expect 80/20 pro-family (although it would help their society a lot of they lived that way).
As for racial subgroups in Japan:
Japanese: 80/20
All Others: 0/0 (unless they can find someone)
I think what is meant is that of having a family being versus placing educational advancement, career etc. first, with marriage and family being optional. Products of The Pill and Abortion. Now the US is at negative growth, with unprecedented numbers of spoiled kids since if having children at all it is put off until the couple (if even married) are financially secure enough to avoid the kind of sacrifice past generations made which formed character. Plus learning to interact with others better since you had 4 other siblings.
Yes, but at best I think they represent about a third of Catholics, likely even less among all those Rome manifestly considers to be members in life and in death.
Yes, children were the only Social Security most had.
