If you ever think one person can't make a difference then I urge you to watch this stunning speech by Gabrielle Powell, a high school student, who helped convince the Roanoke County School Board to vote to lift the mask mandate on January 27, 2022.
PING!
So much is said about the negatives of ‘the younger generation’, that they’re snowflakes, idiots, uneducated, etc.. Some of that may be true, but the human spirit remains and the lessons these kids are experiencing is going to have long reaching consequences.
Ultimately, it’s why evil will always lose.
That said, school boards don’t have legal authority to demand kids wear something on their face. They’re being given the authority by those that just comply. These “emergency authority” laws are for governors, they do not extend to a school board. They need to be told “we’re sending our kids to school without masks, any type of punishment will be met with lawsuits as you have no authority on the matter, we’re done with you abusing your position, we’re done complying”. The second they see the lawsuits they’ll stop this madness.
Great find, PJ. Thanks for posting.
What a great young woman. Every time I see a video like this, I’m hopeful the country CAN be saved.
“That said, school boards don’t have legal authority to demand kids wear something on their face.”
If the school can penalize you for not wearing one, then they have the authority. Some schools will choose to ignore the Governor and the School Board. Probably Cave Spring and Hidden Valley. Maybe William Fleming. The county schools will probably ditch the mask requirement.
It wouldn’t surprise me if some teachers can demand masks be worn in their classroom. The fauscism runs deep and they are in love with it.
I live in Roanoke County. I wonder if she attends William Byrd.
“If the school can penalize you for not wearing one, then they have the authority.”
That’s exactly my point, they’re acting as though they have the authority...in reality, by law, they don’t. They need to be sued, compliance is what is fueling their perception they have the authority. Imagine, for a moment, there’s no virus and they just decide to require everyone wear a mask because they believe it is a good idea anyway. They’d be laughed at. It’s so unconstitutional it isn’t funny. They aren’t legislators or law enforcement. People complied because they were scared. Now we see the state of things and it is absurd to continue. The kids have a right to an education. They also have a right to not wear a mask. A school board is ONLY a school board, yet they’re behaving as though they have absolute authority.
None of it would withstand a lawsuit, you can prove harm easily.
No. She attends Glenvar High.
“...negatives of ‘the younger generation’, that they’re snowflakes, idiots, uneducated, etc...”
I agree, and I am as guilty as the next person for making blanket statements like that. Thank you for pointing that out.
Now that I am thinking about it, I believe there probably just as many upstanding, conservative young people as there are BLM, Antifa, SJW and Woke types. It’s just that the corporate media and entertainment industry and politicians promote the latter rather than the former.
Thanks! I’ll bet she’s an “A” student!
Agreed. Through the media, perception is not reality.
“BLM, Antifa, SJW and Woke types”
...are going to create the exact opposite of them and we’re seeing it happen in the eyes of this young girl, there are many like her.
This little girl, Gabby, used to be in the youth group that I led at my church. She is awesome! I couldn’t believe it when I saw the headline with Roanoke in it and I opened it to see her picture. She is a top notch little lady.
Had she been a kid of a darker hue the story would have been buried.
