"“Not everyone can send their child with a home packed lunch or extra money to buy more than what is initially provided,” father Chris Vangellow told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “For some students, those school meals may be all they eat in a day. This is not enough. This is a failure to those children. Something needs to change.”
Photos of cafeteria lunches served at an upstate New York public school district have gone viral on Facebook, sparking community outrage.
A father posted photos of the lunches provided by his children’s school cafeteria, garnering national attention and frustration among parents concerned about the small portions and quality of the food. ..."

It could be worse, but yes those look pathetic. I know my school lunches never looked that bad. I guess you could stop paying taxes, then just have your kids get jobs. Seems that is where Democrats are sending us anyway (back to child labor).
That is very sad. My parents both worked while I was a kid. Our school lunches were amazing, and I loved them. Our lunch ladies took pride in their work. Our lunches looked like restaurant food and we got plenty.
I think people in prison get better than this, I KNOW damn well the terrorists in Guantanamo eat better than this, when I was in school our school lunches were GREAT and I believe we paid 50 cents!! When we were seniors we were allowed to go off campus for lunch!!

Why not? If things are that tough at home, there are food stamps. A kid’s lunch doesn’t have to cost much or take long to prepare.
I went to a Catholic school with no cafeteria. I know it’s hard to believe, but the parents fed their kids breakfast and packed them lunches. Imagine that.
Can’t pack a lunch for your kid? I’d jerk my kid out of a prison like that instantly.
Well, yeah, because bread, peanut butter and jelly and some fruit and cheese is so expensive that parents cannot afford to buy it themselves and pack their own kids lunches.
Here’s a clue, use your food stamp money for real food and stop buying cigarettes, booze, drugs, take out, lobster, and junk food with your EBT card or the money you got from selling it off.
Adults on welfare sure enough make sure they have plenty to eat, and it’s obvious from their weight, while the kids run the neighborhoods dirty and hungry.
We lived in an Upstate NY welfare town for 18 long years and saw it all.
The only reason those low income kids don’t have enough to eat is because of the parents, plain and simple.
Also, the lunch sizes have been ridiculous for years. My two youngest went to public school for a few years of high school and said the other teens would have to buy two lunches to get enough to eat.
We packed their lunches and they always had enough. My son actually told me once that his friends offered to pay him to make their lunches, too.
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
Well not everybody can put a slice of bologna between two slices of bread.
Maybe schools should teach kids how to pack their own simple lunches since their parents can’t figure it out.
Looks like the best of Mo Obama. Never heard if they ditched her silly school lunch program. I get the impression that they didn’t.
Just to be truthful, he could get more milk pretending to bevabtrue man.
My kids loved peanut butter sandwiches and bananas. A home-packed lunch is cheap.
It is a failure of the individual parents of that particular child, Mr. Vangellow!
Note the passive-aggressive, mealy-mouthed use of the expression "Something needs to change!"
An indirect call for Big Govt. to step in and "fix things."
No thanks, Mr. Statist!
Regards,
Exactly- and these are FREE lunches ‘that follow strict USDA guidelines’ - was this Mooch’s doing? Didn’t this crap start around then?
50 cents?
Great Jumpin’ Jehosephat!
When I was a young whippersnapper we paid a whole 25 cents.
Either you’re still wet behind the ears or you went to one of those hoity toity private schools!
Yes.
This Vangellow fellow needs to take ten minutes out of his busy day as a DJ, and make bag lunches for his damn kids. I’d say he should be embarrassed to have given the interview, but after looking at his pics and bio, I’d say there’s very little that embarrasses this idiot…
Children who have parents who are not responsible enough to feed them have a much bigger problem than a missed meal.
