BRACE YOURSELF! The 'Mother of All Supply Chain Shocks' Is Coming as China Shuts Down Major Ports Due to Pandemic
GATEWAY PUNDIT ^ | 1/16/2022 | Jim Hoft

Posted on 01/16/2022 7:57:17 AM PST by bitt

As if there wasn’t enough bad economic news — The War Room opened their first hour on Friday warning viewers of the coming “mother of all supply chain shocks.”

Zero Hedge reported on the coming Biden crisis on Thursday.

And, as we have also discussed in recent weeks, one place where this growth slowdown is emerging – besides the upcoming deterioration in US consumption where spending is now being funded to record rates by credit cards before it encounters a troubling air pocket – is China and its “covid-zero” policy in general, and its covid-locked down ports in particular.

But what until recently was a minority view confined to our modest website, has since expanded and as Bloomberg writes overnight, the effects of restrictions in China as the country maintains its Covid-zero policy “are starting to hit supply chains in the region.” As a result of the slow movement of goods through some of the country’s busiest and most important ports means shippers are now diverting to Shanghai, causing the types of knock-on delays at the world’s biggest container port that led to massive congestion bottlnecks last summer that eventually translated into a record number of container ships waiting off the coast of California, a glut that hasn’t been cleared to this day.

Oddly, my family has not experienced it at all. Even through Christmas. We receive everything we order and in the same time frame we always have.

Actually this is a good thing. Americans need to realize that we shouldn’t be farming out all of production to China.

Some expert on port action explained that somewhere between 50 and 70-percent of the containers leaving LA...are now empty. In some cases, the ships are demanding that a minimum of half the ship containers are this way, and the strategy from Nov/Dec in China was to hustle off the empty containers...refill them within hours, and load back upon the vessels destined for the west coast.

Oddly, my family has not experienced it at all. Even through Christmas.

Same here however, I am in the video conferencing industry and manufacturers are quoting 15-20 week lead times for certain USB cameras, network and infrastructure devices now.Displays are also a spotty problem right now but have been warned to expect more shortages come the Spring. CertaIn laptops have shortages also, a lot of the demand is driven by the work from home culture we have now.

I actually see this as a good thing (for us as a nation).

China has been paying for it’s domination by selling cheap crap around the world. But they are not capitalist (in the more traditional view) it is more of a criminal organization. Imagine a large business that seems to be earning billions of dollars but is cash poor. Where did the money go? Graft and corruption.

Without the money stream from Western nations China will soon be facing bigger problems then from the virus.

A lot of their impressive infrastructure was built on the cheap and will not survive over time (including high rises, roads, bridges and dams).

But the best news for the west is that China may soon run out of western currency they use to bribe our politicians and media.

Who would have thought the virus they unleashed on the world would destroy them first.

Went into Home Depot, Lowes and Walmart in the past week. Empty shelves are VERY noticeable. Never in my life have I seen such scarcity of many many items.

The Chinese Container ships that are jamming up LA-Long Beach are causing delays to ships from South America loaded with fresh produce. There are millions of pounds of fruit from Chile, Peru, etc. rotting on those ships.

Some are trying to divert to eastern ports, but NY-NJ is also backed up - get ready to pay a fortune for grapes, bananas, etc.

Electronics parts, chips, gaskets, fittings, replacement parts for appliances/tools, etc.

That’s great that none of the above effect your family.

When to a supermarket yesterday, and a few days before that. The entire aisle for frozen deserts was empty. No ice cream, sherbets, popsicles, etc.

Don't know why. The freezer still worked, from what I can tell. Perhaps a shortage of frozen food delivery trucks?

Good post. So many have gulped the “China is 50 ft tall” koolaid. Very similar bs nonsense as with Japan in the late 80’s.

Hope your car doesn't need brakes anytime soon, or any component replaced for that matter.

“...A lot of their impressive infrastructure was built on the cheap and will not survive over time...”

As opposed to the potholes and falling bridges built by corrupt, connected political donor contractors in Illinois, New Jersey, New York, California etc?
