Putin appeals to his citizens to reject Western "progressive liberalism" not least because it echoes Bolshevism:

The Romanovs were nowhere near as bad as the Bolsheviks! Not even close! When you got sent to Siberia for political dissent under the Romanovs you were “effectively” exiled to some remote village. I believe this happened to both Lenin & Stalin. You were not starved, overexposed to the elements and worked to death like was done in Leninist & Stalinist Gulag systems. I read that Lenin killed more dissidents in his first year then the several hundred years of the imperial system. The Romanovs and the whole imperial system oppressed mostly by corruption, mismanagement and general incompetence then by any active agency. The one exception might antisemitism, when all else failed organize a pogrom against the Jews. Get a good bloody riot aimed at the Jews and the people might forget the incompetent government.

Putin is mostly conservative, and Russia is not our enemy. It is the enemy of the NeoCons/NeoLibs, however. And they have pushed Russia into a strategic & military alliance with China.

We are you know what.

Russia isn’t Marxist.

True.

I should have said "has been steadily moving away from Marxism" instead of "is steadily moving away from Marxism".

One other point. During his reign, Nicholas II executed an average of about 7 people per year for political crimes. In its first year, the USSR averaged around 18,000 *per month*. And that was nothing compared to the death toll later on under Stalin.

Don’t disagree, but there was no history of communism to learn from in 1917. Desperate people take desperate gambles.

There’s no Marxism left to move away from. Sure, it has some elements of cradle to the grave left over that are quasi-Marxist/socialist, but nowhere near what many western powers have.

I believe Liberalism was invented in a Kremlin think tank to bring down the West.
Putin knows what it really is and he does not want that toxic sludge to wash up on his own shores.

It’s hard to be invented in a Kremlin think-tank when liberalism preceded Marxism and has its roots in Godless naturalism and elsewhere.

Bernadette Soubirous believes she saw Mother Mary, and regardless of what people may believe or not about this, the point is, the French Liberals reaction to it was to shut down the grotto where she saw the apparitions, board the place up, arrest and fine people for attempting to get to the spring in the grotto behind the bosrds, and to use the media in a mass attempt to riducule her for her faith.

And it isn’t limited to the Frenxh Liberals as others have been treated similarly in other areas throughout the decades. Too much separation of church and state where the state has been increasingly bullying the church for over a century and a half now.

Again, I agree with you, I was trying to illustrate the direction Russia has been moving in, for the past 30 years.

This is the pot calling the kettle black. A Communist with an image team and a makeover calling us out. Even Xi Jinping has made similar callouts about Fabian Socialism. Originalist Communists see the form of socialism in the west to be a bastardization of the original, with CRT and gender rights not being present in original Marxist-Leninist thought. That applies to both Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping.

Also Soviet (Stalinist) thought and Maoist thought has those sorts of “deviants” being lined up and shot in practice soon after the Communists take power.

If it truly weren’t Marxist, it would have bulldozed Lenin’s tomb by now, as well as outlawed the Communist party akin to what Germany did to the Nazi party post-World War II, and also torn down that Karl Marx statue at Teatralyana Square. That’s certainly what I would have done in Russia’s position during the 1990s.

Besides, Putin’s also the same guy who stated Lenin’s artifacts and the Communist Manifesto are no different from the relics of Christian Saints and the Bible, respectively, which tells me all I need to know, that he is indeed still Marxist ultimately.

Actually, there are plenty of older conservatives who are against Putin. Such as Trevor Loudon and the John Birch Society, specifically their magazine The New American.

Yeah, and there were plenty of Western Nazi symps who’d like to see Nazi regalia throughout Germany. That argument didn’t work after World War II, it definitely shouldn’t even BE an argument with Russia.

Besides, I’d argue there’s even MORE money to be had for Imperialist Russian elements as well. I for one would have loved to see some of the Czars’ tombs.

Putin praises both the Tsars and the Bolsheviks, he pretty much plays it neutral between the two.

Well, he’s going to have to pick a side sooner or later, and considering he has funded quite a few Bolshevik-like organizations abroad, it’s pretty obvious that he ultimately adheres more to the communist side of things rather than to the Tsar side of things.
