In parts of Canada where severe storms happen and cars are stranded, the people are taken to shelters, regardless of
vehicle motive power. Too difficult here in the states evidently

Worst part of being in an EV stuck in the cold?

No muffler.

Turn everything off and freeze; meanwhile the battery dies anyway from the cold .

And you believe that? In 20 degree weather?

How long will an ICE vehicle run to produce same idle heating in same conditions? Most of that energy is wasted just to get heat as byproduct. EVs have multiple heating options, expending energy efficiently.

Give it up.

Despite being an element of the rat’s Marxist plan to destroy the middleclass, some Freepers defend EVs with religious fervor.

I could write a similar post about Hurricane evacuations here in FL. It’s tough enough getting plentiful gas, (I pack an extra 15 gallons in jerry cans) but there would be hundreds of thousands of stranded EVs in the Florida heat. Certain death.

No thanks.

Occam’s Razor I believe it’s called. If electric cars worked as these froot loops insist, we would have all be driving electric cars all along!

Gas cars run out of gas too if idling for heat too long. Dumb article. Turn on seat heaters, and you’ll use way fewer “miles” than a gas engine idling to fill the cab with residual waste heat.

The hot engine heats the passengers you moron! What’s a heater core?

Of the thousands of automobiles that were stuck on the highway, there had to have been several Teslas. Probably a few Nissan Leafs too. Especially, with the amount of Liberals in the northern VA area.

Natural selection. If in an EV, you made the stupid decision that will erase your genes from the pool. Good for the rest of us.

Once worked with a guy in NYC, 25+ years ago. He told a story of being stuck in a train on the way north to his home. All night.
A train. A train that couldn’t force its way thru the snow.

That means, treehugger dummies, that this sort of thing is not unusual. If you don’t plan on such, you deserve what you get. Just like folks who live along the Gulf and Atlantic coasts who act all shocked by storms. Geesh.

I changed my plans which require that I drive that section of highway. My original plans would have put in in the traffic jam. However, upon hearing of the upcoming storm, I changed my plans and drove Rt 95 from DC to Richmond Sunday evening rather than Monday in the storm.

So the Democratic controlled Virginia DOT had insufficient plans and equipment to deal with the weather.

Tesla said if the car is not moving their heaters will work for 72 hours on a full or nearly full charge

And, how many of those EVs would still have full or nearly full charge? No way of knowing, and it would only take a few EVs with low or no charge to jam up the roads.

And, how dependent are EV batteries in the cold? How efficient? It' my understanding that in cold weather, you might not get as much out of a full charge as in regular weather.

Protect our Freedom: heaters for a car that thereafter can’t go far enough anywhere to get another coal fired power plant charge up”

John Mosby: “I’m sure the batteries will keep the cabin very comfortable if the outside temperature is 72F.”

People mock things when they have little information about a subject or it is new.People are afraid of new technology and things thye do not understand.

My dad built our first home when drywall first came on the market. He told me the old Italian plasterer with the cigar in hs mouth mocked drywall. Oh it will never last, it will delaminate in a few years, a few years from now people will go back to plaster on and on. Guess who was out of a job in a few years..though I expect he learned how to do drywall.

Teslas and the new Toyotas have a 485 mile range. Toyota said their goal in 2 years in 550-650 mile range. They are also working on regenerative braking that will use the motor so no more brake calipers and rotors. They said other than windshield washer fluid and tires the car will literaly be maintence free. Toyota also said their motors will last a million miles in a few more years and batteries will last 15 years at minimum. The new LF or LP batteries Teslas use are 100% recyclable.

The new Mercedes goes 680 miles on one charge. Level 2 Fast chargers can now be bought for $699 at Lowes and Home Depot for homes. They used to be $3500-4000 just a few years ago. Every single large chain gas station near our house now has EV chargers. Major chain restuarants are looking at putting them in or selling point for travelers to stop and eat at the stores.

EV technology and capability is changing at a frightning pace. 5 years from now most cars sold will be EV’s

The last thing I hear about is the electric grids. Nearly every state produces more electricty than they use. The excess is either sold to Mexico or Canada or they just lower the power plants capabalities when not needed.

Author is ignorant about electric cars. Can run the heater for hours because you are not using the battery to power the engine for heat. It is nice too when my wife goes into a store during the summer and I can sit in the car with the air conditioning running.

I think Standard Oil Company had a little to do with it. You know, the guys who worked with GM to rip out all of the electric trolly routes in the 1920s.

“And you believe that? In 20 degree weather?”

Most Ev’s use a heat pump and they use less power than the old style heating element you may think these cars use

As Tesla said their heaters will run 72 hours on a full charge in cold weather with the car not moving. The heat pump on EV’s heats in the winter and ac’s in the summer.

And just how to you put a time frame on such a thing without considering the outside temperature? You can’t. There is so much to pick apart in propaganda statements. And an EV is almost never fully charged unless you just left the charging bay.

BS. Heat is Energy, and Energy is Energy. Unless you believe EV’s get stored energy from underground then that is nonsense.
Home heating/cooling heat pumps use stored energy from underground. That is how they can save. In the case of an EV you not only have to use energy to produce heat, but you will also use energy running a pump. So the loss would be greater. Don’t believe everything they tell you.
