That was my reaction. Sure you can commit fraud to get a mortgage to buy a house. But to keep the house you need to be paying the mortgage. Oh and except in times of intense economic insanity you have to make a rather substantial down payment.

And, if you make the mortgage payments and no one suffers any loss is it actually fraud. I mean what damage did anyone suffer.

I don't condone immigration fraud, and that is what everyone should be freaked out over, not that he was otherwise a financially responsible individual who managed his money and his debts wisely.

Not an uncommon practice. Read an article that there were people who trolled cemeteries. got the names of dead children, researched the obituaries and then assumed their identities by initially requesting a birth certificate. The rest of the documentation including passports followed.
