A new flavor in the French presidential race.
Valerie Pecresse emerging from a "primary of the Right" in France to be the candidate of Les Republicains one of France's "mainstream" parties.
Pecresse is President of the Ile de France region in and around Paris.
Her victory last weekend led to instant polling that gave her second place in the first round behind incumbent Emmanuel Macron.
And the polling for the second round showing Pecresse a winner over Macron by a narrow margin.
Macron himself went before the media on Thursday for a press conference in the aftermath of the polls.
Meanwhile Marine Le Pen's people say she is now ready to debate Eric Zemmour after the outspoken Jewish pundit finally entered the presidential contest.
Zemmour has fashioned himself as a defender of French culture and tradition in the face of increasing Islamic influence in the country fueled by immigration. He has taken some of Marine Le Pen's support away from her.

Heavy rains and flooding in southwestern France this weekend.
Meanwhile the weekly protest continued in Tours today we are now into late fall colder less hospitable weather but the protests carry on some with masks, many not muzzled today.
The Yellow Vests worn by some but not by others. At the video link a crowd estimate of some 400 people.
And the protest in Toulon today focused on opposition to the vaccine passport in front of a ferris wheel open to the vaxxed and closed to the unvaxxed.
As mentioned before heavy rains and flooding in southwestern France but in the Pyrenees a protest rally and march in Pau.
