Shaquille O’Neal brutally slammed celebrities for being “out of their freaking mind.”
Shaq is often remembered by fans as a four-time NBA champion and one of the greatest basketball players of all time.
However, he would prefer to be remembered for his kindness instead, Fox News reports.
In an interview with the New York Post, the 7-foot-1 former Los Angeles Lakers superstar said he’s renounced his celebrity status.
As one of the most recognizable athletes, Shaq is apparently done with “the glitz and glamour,” Fox News notes.
“These celebrities are going freaking crazy and I don’t want to be one,” Shaq said.
“I denounce my celebrity-ness today. I’m done with it,” he told the New York Post.
“I don’t want to be in that category,” he continued.
“Celebrities are crazy, they really are. Don’t call me that anymore,” he added.
“These people are out of their freaking mind with how they treat people, what they do, what they say. That’s never been me. I never want to be looked at like that,” Shaq concluded.
Dad was Army.
I work with the guy who had all the basketball scoring records at Cole High School in San Antonio (Ft. Sam Houston) until O’Neal showed up.

What a refreshing thing to read! Good on Shaq.
His father was a solid and well-respected NCO if I remember correctly and it shows with Shaq. A huge man with a big heart and common sense.
I was a basketball nut in high school. 4 elective gyms and public courts and YMCA.
I remember seeing him dunk once and was like that dude is a freak. Just so physically dominant it was scary.
Side note- my favorite ever is Allen Iverson. 5’10” maybe 170 maybe, schooled everyone, MVP winner. That’s amazing.
To quote a bigoted person, she said “I like Iverson, he’s a n***** and he’s cool with it”.
Also, no warm up ran a 4:10 mile for fun at the Olympics.
Always loved the Big Fella..I remember the good ol days, 2002 Lakers/Kings(Or as we call them, The Queens) that was the showtime era right there, not the garbage we see now
Shaq is a cop and Republican. Shitting on him is a bad position.
Not many high profile blacks like him.
Thread hijack! Shaq is very impressive.
George Forman is too. https://www.georgeforeman.com/pages/biography
Funny story about Shaq. I met him about 25 years ago at the Planet Hollywood in Orlando. Let me preface this by saying I know nothing about basketball.
However, one night, I was at the restaurant with friends. I went to the ladies room. In order to get to the ladies room, I had to go up this narrow flight of steps to the upper floor of the restaurant.
As I went up the flight of steps, an absolutely gigantic black man came walking down the steps. We passed each other in the middle.
Since I am 5’0 and sassy, I said, “Man! You are tall, sir!”
To which he answered, “And you are very short, miss!”
We laughed.
When I came back to my table, my friends were amazed. “Did you know who you passed on that stairway?”
“Yeah! This gigantic black dude! He was like 9 feet tall!”
They were like, “You passed Shaq!!”
My response, “Well, this Shaq guy is like 9 feet tall!”
Apparently, he’s only about 7 feet tall. But he seemed very friendly and down to earth in that small exchange we had.
I loved his small cameo as a detective on SouthLAnd.
I’m glad to see he still seems pretty down to earth.
Does “brutally slammed” actually mean “severely and honestly berated”? Why don’t reporters just use the language as intended?
Republicans can be hypocrites too. Just because somebody is conservative doesn't make them immune from observation of their faults.

I don’t care that he’s rich. I hope he keeps doing commercials. I really enjoy his commercials, they make me smile. He honestly does have a smile and personality that can light up the room.
I love the one where he’s wearing a wig in disguise. lol. And the ones he used to do for some sort of soft drink.
when you’re the size of Shaq you can afford to be nice.
I must correct you, Mugsy Bogues was one inch shorter.
‘My kids are older now. They’re kinda upset with me. They’re not really upset, but they don’t understand. I tell them all the time: We ain’t rich. I’m rich.‘ — Shaq
