Corporate America, in general, has no loyalty to America.

Well, then, time will tell. Something that egregiously huge will have to be explained to the Apple shareholders, if in fact there's anything to explain other than "Daily Mail reposted a random blog article, which was then reposted by NewsBusters, and then posted onto FreeRepublic".

The apparent original is on a BLOG called "The Information":

https://www.theinformation.com/articles/facing-hostile-chinese-authorities-apple-ceo-signed-275-billion-deal-with-them

You can decide whether some random blog's "expose" is credible or not.

Me, I'm going with "Blog pages with "Apple" in the title get hits."

The Information is not a blog.

Apple refused comment on this. (i.e. confirmed it).

It happened. It’s normal. That’s how business is done there.

Reuters and The Hill ran the story too. But go off.

> But go off.

Not sure whether that was meant to be "bugger off". :-)

Tell ya what. I don't feel like arguing, it's really not worth my time or concern, regardless of whether it's true and a spectacular scoop about some nefarious business deal, or whether it's just a bunch of Apple-bashing FUD. Not really my circus, and definitely not my clowns.

I'll ping Swordmaker, who generally has more detailed and more accurate information about Apple stuff than anyone else here. See ya.

Apple CEO Tim Cook had “personally met with Chinese officials in 2016 and forged a secret $275billion deal with” China

Apple is a publicly list company on the NASDAQ STOCK MARKET. Why was the deal not reported to comply with The Sarbanes-Oxley Act and SEC disclosure requirements? Is Apple under SEC or DOJ investigation regarding this deal and failure to disclose?

Here is the best non-paywall article I’ve seen about it.

Umm, maybe because this "deal" didn't actually happen, so it doesn't need to be reported. Nobody gets away with hiding $275 BILLION dollars from SOX and the SEC. Seriously, folks.

> Is Apple under SEC or DOJ investigation regarding this deal and failure to disclose?

If the deal is real, then Apple -should- be under investigation. Mainly for INSANITY thinking they could somehow hide $275 BILLION dollars. Where, under a freakin' mattress?

The premise of this claim of a deal is highly suspect. But the headlines screaming "Apple" get a lot of clicks, don't they? Clickbait FUD, is my guess.

Thanks for the link. The info on that page is directly off The Information site.

Assuming the basic facts are accurate (I'm not taking sides in that), nothing in the article suggests anything illegal was done, or even "secret", other than the usual privacy that business deals often require.

Again assuming the "deal" is real, it strikes me as extremely unlikely that Apple managed to keep such a huge deal "secret" for five years, or that Cook thought he could "get away with it" forever.

The whole thing will almost certainly devolve into a nothing-burger once the manic headlines on the webpages aren't getting as many clicks.

Lots of outrageous web stories disappear under the radar when they are discovered to be misinterpretated or carefully excerpted. Time will tell. Thanks again for the link.

No one ever suggested anything was illegal.

That’s a strawman.

It shows what scum Cook, is. But he’s not alone, perhaps just the best. It is the price to participate in a totalitarian national socialist market.

But it didn’t work for other companies who went the same route.

Apple is big and strong, but China is a lot bigger and stronger. Playing footsie with the ChiComs is asking to get burned when what you're doing or the deal you've brokered no longer suits their needs or plans.

Which is to say, dealing with the Devil rarely works out long term, Johnny and his new-won golden fiddle notwithstanding.

"B-b-but we had a deal!"
"I am changing the terms of the deal. Pray I do not change it further."
