Notice how much the ocean has risen between 1950 and now.
I’ve been on vacation for the last week, but I’ve been watching “The Winds of War,” and “War and Remembrance.” The Winds of War depicts the Bombing of Pearl Harbor in the last episode. I can’t imagine being there. My Grandfather fought the Japs in the Pacific as a Marine. I never talked to him about WWII. He would have been 100 this year.
My mother’s cousin was stationed at Pearl when they got hit. Survived without major injury but needed a hearing aid ever after.
Seems to have dropped. All this time, and the bunker oil still comes up to the surface. The men aboard were declared buried at sea, most of them unrecoverable, and would still have been even if the Arizona had been raised. So this is a gravesite.
Many do not know, the turret barbette which shows the water level drop (possibly also from what tide it was when photo’d), has tiedowns for small craft, because the ship serves on occasion as a burial site for survivors of the Arizona who in recent years have had their remains interred there, inside the No. 4 turret’s barbette.
I was there back in 1969. My camera broke and all I got was out of focus photos.
Meanwhile overhead Japanese Zeros were flying all over the place as they were filming “Tora,Tora,Tora” at the same time.
