The whole Temple Mount business was created by a caliph who moved his bored court to Jerusalem. He gave them something to do and begun building the Dome and the fake legend of Mohammad’s ascension. The court got into the tourist business and made a lot of money, but then got bored again so the caliph moved the court back to Amman.
