I ran into an old California buddy online Sunday. He asked me why I moved to Texas.
We didn’t have a lot of time, so I gave him the shortest explanation I could: “It’s not California.”
For the 10 or so friends, all former Californians, who have moved near us in Texas in the last year or so, no further explanation is needed. In Texas 80 looters don’t pull their cars up to swankiest department stores and loot the place in broad daylight with impunity.
San Francisco is different, and has been for a long time, nearly as long as it has allowed urinating and defecating and sleeping and shooting up heroin on public sidewalks.
That town’s mayor said this week they are finally going to “crack down.” Will police arrest the thieves? Well, we will have to see about that. It’s still a misdemeanor in California to steal anything under $950 in value.
But they are not going to allow people to park cars near the stores. That should work -- as well as anything else in California works. It also should discourage paying customers and maybe clear the aisles for the looters.
We’ve been in Texas nearly nine years. We’ve yet to see a human turd on a public sidewalk, let alone a human depositing one. We’ve yet to see a mob of thieves swarm a store to take away as much as they can carry while police look the other way.
San Francisco Police Chief William Scott told NBC Nightly News stores must be willing to hire security guards to make a private persons arrest. How’s that working out?
Consequently, criminals, some wielding weapons and crowbars, load up, leave, then return for more.

“”For all you that post the same thing over and over again about how we (in California) voted for this, you don’t know anything about California.””
I’ve lived there twice now, first time was the Oceanside area and the second was in Victorville. California is one of my favorite states but I never travel there anymore. Since I first moved there in the early 70’s I’ve watched it’s politics go downhill and all it took was a couple of cities to do it. I’m seeing the same happen in many other states. Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona are headed the same direction. They target the largest cities in each state and go from there. Texas is still holding strong but I’m afraid it’s just a matter of time, they’ve got Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Dallas and El Paso and they’re not done.
“ I propose a bounty on looters.”
**************
Well, in texas we don’t have a bounty on looters (btw, did you know because most looters are black word police have labeled the word looter to be racist?). But, we do have a Castle Law which protects the right of defending property with deadly force. God Bless Texas…
I can take it or leave it but it was curious, when I left california I crossed the Colorado river into Yuma Arizona - it was the next song on the radio - really weird.
I think back to 1967. I was in the Army and my orders sent me to Viet Nam, departing from San Francisco. I arrived in San Francisco a day early. What did I do on that day? In military uniform, I walked and walked and walked and walked. EVERYTHING was so beautiful and clean. The people I met were so friendly. I’ll never forget the view overlooking the bay. Today I read about California and wonder what I would see and how far I would get today. I now live in rural Pennsylvania. I’ve told my wife over and over that I’m glad we live where we now live.
The wife and I ran into a lady walking her dog at the park here in central Texas. We talked a bit and she said she had just moved here.
Where are you from? Standard question.
“Ok well don’t take this wrong, but I’m from California” she said. “I’m not one of those crazy people so don’t hold that against me”.
Must really be bad when a person is embarrassed to explain where they are from. She seemed nice, but you can’t just ignore the fact she’s from crazyfornia. Exposure to that idiocy can’t just be ignored.
She said she was concerned about our Texas storms. Yes, very bad, don’t come to Texas, storms are bad and will kill everyone. Try NM or CO, more crazy types there. You California types fit in better there.
Go to Texas and you will find Californians and Hurricanes. The Californians double as alligators.
At least she was smart enough to move out of there. I wouldn’t even visit there.
People like Pelosi don't exactly "live" anywhere.
You can be sure she will keep a luxury residence in San Francisco, her place in the wine country, and whatever getaway place she has, probably in New Zealand.
So, though it makes a good meme, she sure isn't "moving" to Florida, just like Obama doesn't "live" on Martha's Vineyard and Mitt Romney doesn't "live" in La Jolla, the Wasatch Range, or New Hampshire.
Instead of "owning a lib" by (falsely) saying she's "moving to Florida", you might better ask why, after a career with a salary of $178 000, she can pick up an extra house @ $25 million like most people would buy a Florida souvenir like a toy license plate that says "Nancy".
I lived in Florida for a year while my late husband was in Nam. I like the people but not the state. My favorite city though is St Augustine.
And yes, Nancy is moving to Jupiter Florida.... so sorry for Floridians!
I am hoping the people moving to Texas from California are the smart ones who have seen what liberal (D) governance does to a state and vow not to repeat the sins of Californians. If they vote here like the majority of Californians vote Texas will be the same crap-hole that California is without the earthquakes within 8 years. Big cities in Texas like Dallas, Austin, Plano and even Ft. Worth have been voting for the Democrats who destroy everything they touch. When Beto beat Cruz in Tarrant county it became apparent that Texas will not be Texas for long and the California invasion may well hasten that decline into the political abyss.
it seems the sss policy actually works out west, the eastern shore, and near thurmont...
“..all it took was a couple of cities to do it. “
I left when I retired. Moved to Georgia to be closer to family. I’m living it
My pleasure
Funny hearing all this. They are exactly the same arguments we used 28 years ago when we left San Diego for greener (redder) pastures.
“Ask her why Pelosi is moving OUT of California to live in Florida.”
We certainly don’t want her here!

“Not sure what the answer is.”
Not sure there is one. I’m in West Texas as far from the Urban Anthills as I can get and still have to battle against the big cities. We’ve got a fairly large ranch so it’s not like I can just pick up and leave and we’ve got some oil and gas production which we operate ourselves. I get attacked from every angle, raising cattle and being and oil and gas producer. My taxes just keep getting higher and higher until at some point they’re going to make me make a decision I thought I’d never have to make. This ranch has been in the family since the 1880’s. They’re not going to quit until they get it all.
I’m thinking about it.
Lets sum it up: Florida is the worst place with crazy Florida man and woman, Texas sounds just horrible, so Arizona it is. And you'll save on those long cross country moving expenses, now that gas is so expensive.
