After nearly two months of waiting, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) announced last week that President Biden's vaccine mandate for businesses with more than 100 workers will go into effect on January 4. Millions of Americans are now on notice that they have 53 days to decide between their job or a jab. While the legal battles are already playing out in courtrooms around the country, Christians are prayerfully considering how to respond.
In recent conversations about the vaccine mandate, many Christians have reflected on Romans 13:1-7 and believers' obligation to submit to the governing authorities. But while Scripture affirms government's God-ordained purpose and encourages respect and submission to rightful authority, what is the obligation for Christians when it comes to a constitutionally suspect mandate in our politically charged times?
First, we should consider the Bible's teaching on the role and responsibility of government. While Christians are called to submit to the governing authorities (Rom. 13:1-7), this submission has its limits. In fact, Jesus made this point clearly when He explained that God, not the state, is the fundamental authority in a believer's life (Matt. 22:21). While Christians ought to "render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's" they must recognize that their primary allegiance is to God. Thus, while the state has a realm of legitimate authority, believers do not owe the state unlimited deference.

I am fortunate that my company granted my religious exemption.
Had the author missed the 5th Circuit Court Weighing in?
Wow!
You’re one of the very few who has been granted that.
What a blessing you have there!
If they can force you to get the jab, they can force you to do anything.
And they will.
You should not need a religious exemption.
You have the absolute right to say no for whatever reason you want.
While I have a religious objection to the jab, at this point my main reason for refusing is political.
If my company ends up demanding I take the jab, it’s the last day I will work for them.
I always see this is the context of Niemoller: “First they came for the socialists, and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a socialist ...”
This is something that creeps. And it will creep along and consume every category of person eventually. The time to speak out and say “No” is right at the beginning, or by the time they come for You, there will be no one left to speak out.
Oh, I agree in principle, as does my company, which had been pretty lenient on granting exemptions. By doing so, they can claim they are following the Federal regulations without forcing anyone to get the shot. It’s not perfect, but it’s what we have to do with an idiot in the White House.
I’ll render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s. But he doesn’t own me.
Did you have to reveal the reason for your religious exemption or did you just tell them you had a religious objection?
Anything that questions your belief or the sincerity of that belief is an invasion of your privacy and prohibited by the constitution and dozens of state and federal laws.
Zackly right.
Thanks for posting.
I was able to make a general statement that a seriously held religious belief based on the sanctity of life.
The only questions HR asked were for me to verify if it was a seriously held belief and my supervisor if he supported my exemption (which he told me he would before I even requested it).
I would not have answered the question if it was serious. It’s none of their business. I would only tell them (at most) that I have a religious objection.
But then I don’t need the job right now.
I would probably ask them if they have a serious belief that the jab is necessary.
I would also get them to put it on writing that if they insist that I get the jab, that the company will accept full liability for any adverse effects from the jab up to and including death and that they recognize that I am taking the jab against my will, against my personal religious convictions and that I am doing it under duress.
I understand your point of view. I answered what I thought was the bare minimum to get the exemption.
Had they ask more probing questions, I would have told them to stuff it.
First they came for the healthcare workers and I did not speak out - because I was not a healthcare worker.
Then, they came for the federal employees and I did not speak out - because I was not a federal employee.
Then, they came for the workers of companies larger than 100 people and I did not speak out - because I was not a worker of a company larger than 100 people.
Then, they came for me - and there was no one left to speak for me.

1) there is no pandemic, it is no worst then it has been for many years
2) the mask does not protect anyone
3) the vaccine does not protect anyone, it harms many.
By agreeing to use a mask or take the vaccine is say the reverse and is lying. I cannot lie.
By doing either the mask or vaccine you are saying to people there is danger which is a lie and causing others to fear which is not loving them. Contrary to the great commandment.
I will not take the vaccine.
If you take the shot, you participated in the murder of a baby. So go ahead, test god. Get the shot. And I don’t need a piece of paper begging for a religious exemption.
