My favorite song of remembrance, Poppy Day Performed live by the Legendary Pink Dots in Tel Aviv
Minstrel Boy.
OH MY. There are so many. Probably some of the newer ones like “I made it to Arlington” (Trace Adkins?), and some by Toby Keith...
I would have to think on this long and listen to a bunch. But thanks for putting up the question, and I had started the day listening to patriotic songs, then switched over to the Rittenhouse trial.
5 veterans in my immediate family. Happy Veterans Day to you!
The Anglican hymn I vow to thee my country. I can post some links from remembrance day at the Albert Hall if anyone is interested.
It’s not Memorial Day.
I remember when we were kids Billy Don’t Be a Hero was a big song.
This was early 70’s and indoctrination was well underway.
As much as I’m loathe to admit it, “Travelling Soldier” by The (formerly “Dixie”) Chicks makes we weep.
“It’s not Memorial Day.”
Yes, but it is almost Poppy Day, and Veterans day is as good as any for thinking about this.
(not that the current administration would agree with me)
The way I feel today it’s the “Fixin’ to Die Rag” by Country Joe and the Fish. I no longer think the country deserves the sacrifices of Veterans. The majority are crazed left wingers or are to cowardly to fight back. To Hades with them.
1916 - Motorhead
Battle Hymn of the Republic is my pick.
Yes- love the Minstrel Boy— to the War has Gone, in the ranks of death you will find him, an eerie loving tribute.
For me— Bless our Military, and the Gardens of Stone in Arlington and other US gravesites- as this date is Remembrance Day in the UK and Canada and family fought alongside both country’s men, and lost a dear friend to a Japanese samurai sword upon his capture- an Australian Coastwatcher in Leyte Gulf. (Armistice day for the Armistice of WWI.. the 11th Hour, the 11 day of the 11th Month— all fighting shall end, and it did)— there is this moving song from UK artist Mark Knopfler. For we WILL Remember You, All:

O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife,
Who more than self their country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America!
May God thy gold refine,
Till all success be nobleness,
And every gain divine!
That brings tears to my eye at funeral services.
