Los Angeles Port a 'Ghost Town' Despite Biden Order to Remain Open on Weekends(DOH!)

Joe Biden has a problem. Well, yes, he has more than one problem. But this problem will almost certainly cost him and the Democrats dearly at the polls.

Biden promised every good little girl and good little boy that Santa Claus would, indeed, make it to their houses on Christmas Eve after the Grinch tried to sabotage Santa’s mission by causing a huge backlog at American ports, keeping cargo from foreign countries — where all the really great presents like smartphones and games originate — from being unloaded on American docks. He ordered the Port of Los Angeles to remain open on weekends and add extra hours of operation to its schedule.

“What a great idea!” exclaimed the puppy dogs in the press. “Biden Saves Christmas!” screamed the headlines. (Not really, but you know they wanted to.)

What Pappy Joe didn’t mention is that the United States government has zero control over the operations at the port. And that makes Biden’s Big Idea to save the Christmas season for retailers and customers alike nothing more than a PR stunt.

Last weekend, five of Los Angeles’ six terminals were open on Saturday while none were open at night. In Long Beach, two terminals were open Saturday during the day, according to the Examiner.

There is quite literally nothing Biden can do to affect the situation at the ports. He can’t get the ships unloaded any faster. He can’t create extra warehouse space that’s in critically short supply on the docks. He can’t conjure up trucks that are in compliance with California’s draconian emissions standards to move the goods from the port to retail outlets across the country.

Biden knew all this, of course. He knew it before he looked into the camera and told the American people he was on top....

Also heard there was some sort of complaint about using some automated onload/offload equipment. In any case, as usual, brandon and buttplug are lying. NOT unexpected.

Whatever Lefties say they are going to do, you can rest assured that they will do the opposite.

They have to lie about everything.

I wonder if he’s actually coordinating with these PORTS to create this slowdown. I mean, they won’t say “the quiet part” in this case, if true, but it’s still worth speculation.

When you stop a complex assembly line, you have to bring it back on line in the correct order. The docks aren’t the problem. The truckers aren’t going to start a haul if there is no one to unload it at the other end.

Apparently, the problem is not really with the ports, but with the lack of trucks able to haul the stuff out.
Official explanation - lack of truck drivers.
Real reason - two Gov. Newsom orders.

Gov Newsom practically banned independent truck owners/operators from California. The law passed to make workers out of Uber drivers as a side effect banned independent owners/operators of semis from California.

Secondly, to tackle climate change, gov. Newsom banned trucks made before 2011 from California, with restriction on new trucks to force electrical trucks in the future (they do not exist now). So nobody wants to invest in new trucks now, while the old are under restrictions.

Port workers are irrelevant, if there is nobody to haul the containers to the destination.

I was listening to a local radio talk show this morning. The host claims to be an independent, and he talks about all sorts of things, not just politics.

Well, he spent an solid hour explaining how Biden is not responsible for the rising price of gasoline, or for product shortages, or for anything else. It’s all a big, unfortunate coincidence.

Maybe his listeners will believe that. But less and less will as time goes on.

The problem is air quality standards for trucks, and nothing has been done to address that problem.

Bingo. Many companies CANNOT receive or unload containers after hours or on weekends. It's not just about hiring people or changing shifts, many have lease restrictions on after-hours deliveries.

I've seen schedules for shared loading dock space that had no room for more overnight or weekend deliveries and it's not like they can leave the trailers on the street and borrow a yard mule to move them back and forth.

The Communist countries had shortages of almost everything, all the time.
The official explanations were always “temporary shortages” cause by drought/flooding/cold/hot weather, US embargoes, capitalistic saboteurs, etc. etc..
Eventually nobody believed any of that crap.

And the driver doesn’t want to wait for days or weeks to get unloaded.

Maybe Joe will get on TV again and say that his patience is wearing thin. That’s what good dictators do in situations like this.

As a 40+ year legislator this is all he knows - make a law (an edict), throw other peoples money at it and have no personal accountability.

Seems to me... a leader with real business experience would understand the levers, behaviors, financial considerations and operational needs. He would be better suited to solving this problem. There’s a CEO from NY that I can think of for the job. He was recently let go from his last job, though it looks like it had nothing to do with his performance (he accomplished many great things without much recognition for it). Maybe he was too successful and made others look weak and pathetic by comparison. Think he lives in FL now, maybe Joe should call him for advice.
