I have read that “ice cream cone” therapy is common with people supporting their dementia-stricken loved ones.

No matter how far their dementia has gone and their cognitive abilities have declined, everyone knows what to do with an ice cream cone. So this is a way to give the care-givers a “pause in the action”. They can count on 10 or 15 minutes of no embarrassing incidents because the patient is totally focused on the ice cream.
