Firefox starts monitoring keystrokes, adding adverts to address bar

In the address bar, Mozilla is now displaying ads disguised as Firefox contextual suggestions for US users. The company claims it introduced the feature to “fund development and optimization.”

“Beginning in Firefox version 92, you will also receive new, relevant suggestions from our trusted partners based on what you’re searching for. No new data is collected, stored, or shared to make these new recommendations,” Mozilla said.

I cannot even fathom why anyone would install ANY browser and use it default without going through the settings first.

And after every browser update.

True, they come and set things back how they want them. And I never register a browser account, no need to.

Firefox wants you to log in so you can put things in your “pocket”. They support and practice censorship. They cancel people for things that happened years before. And now this. Anyone who thinks Mozilla cares about privacy is lying or stupid.

I removed Google Chrome and Firefox from my Ubuntu 21.04 Desktop. Brave Browser only for me, and I added the JSHELTER extension for even more privacy.

Linux, Brave, JShelter and a good SSL VPN using offshore connectivity. That's the way to go IMO.

FYSA. I never used noscript before, but am using it now. It’s working great in brave and edge.

Thank you for the update! Might give it another shot. Is it the NoScript Suite? or the “Light”?

I ask because the light sucks compared to the suite version.

The suite version has a learning curve to remember what toggles what elements, but well worth the time because you can be selective with each individual script and API connection, and toggle on only the very minimum needed. :)

Pretty sure it’s the full version not the light.

Pretty sure it’s the full version not the light. I’ve been using EDGE a lot more so I needed something more to protect me. I really like that I can install some sites as apps, so I like edge.

Plus I run a couple browser anyways for persona reasons.

The full version will have a dropdown list of all the individual scripts it blocked when you click the icon after landing on a page. :)

I like that, I can turn on just the top “domain” listing and it satisfies the JS requirement yet blocks all the rest. Once in awhile I have to toggle on a couple others to make media play or have images show. But cool that you don’t have to whitelist the whole site and all of them.

That is the problem with NoScript lite, you can only block them all, or whitelist everything it throws at you from that site. They are not individually selective.
