If something happens to Captain Kirk Bezos will go down in history as one of Star Trek’s classic villains.
He will be fine if not I cant see a more fitting end for him love him
Oh my Lord, you’re so right! He’ll never live that down. His company would be wounded too.
Cool post.
Shatner made the original series much more interesting than the socialist dreck put out in the later series.
I think so. Like you, I hope they didn’t skimp on his pre-flight testings.
That said, if he passed all the tests then William Shatner really is Captain James Tiberius Kirk. A true legend!
I think Shatner is being foolish here. First off, the thing does not go into space. It’s sub-orbital, strait up, then strait down. Second, bezos an idiot and I wouldn’t let him send my cat up in one of those things. God’s speed Shatner.
Eat your heart out HW Bush. Looks like your parachute jump is about to be outdone.
Ps. Have you found your 1,000 points of light yet?
For my part, I loved Shatner in his role of Kirk because of the idea of a leader they were trying to portray. Not his actual portrayal, because, as we all know and Kirk himself knows too well...he is an over-actor.
It was the idea of who they thought Captain Kirk should be, and many people understand, it is the epitome of leadership, boldness, preserverance, intelligence, and demand for quality that his admirers found attractive.
It is why, one of my favorite movies to this day, is “Galaxy Quest”. If there is a better skewer of the whole genre of franchises like Star Trek, I cannot think of one. For Star Wars, there was the silly, yet humorous “SpaceBalls”.
But “Galaxy Quest” dug at “Star Trek” in a way meant to parody it that drove to the heart. For example, the Sigourney Weaver character, who as time went on, had larger and larger rents and tears in her clothing. And of course, Tim Allen’s shirt comes all the way off almost immediately! Or the Sigourney Weaver character who has to repeat everything the computer says, and it’s her JOB, DAMMIT!
It is GREAT parody...:)
So. If William Shatner were to go into space and die...I would donate money if it were needed. Not because I want harm to come to him, but damn! To be 90 years old, play that part all those years and be identified with it in a generally good way, and to have the chance to go into outer space and actually DO it before you died, that alone would be worth it. But if you died after getting up there, you would literally become immortal in a way.
And hey-you are 90 years old, you do that...get into space...what do you do? Hope to get a few more years before the “man with the butter-knife tied to a stick” (as Eddie Rickenbacker used to say) gets to you.
No. If it were me, and I were 90, and they told me there was a 75% chance my body couldn’t take it...I would still do it. Not even a question.
Go Captain Kirk!
He better not wear the red shirt. We all know what happens to the crew members who wear the red!
He should say “Good thing I’m wearing my red shirt” 5 seconds before launch.
Bezos would already make a pretty good Bond movie villain.
I’m sincerely hoping that Shatner does a double take, looks out a viewport, then in feigned horror looks at the camera gesticulating wildly and saying, “There’s something on the wing!”
I am happy for him. One of the few actors I tend to like as an actor and as a person.
Godspeed, Captain.
Or a star trek villain
Bezos of Terra
“One miiiiiilion dollars”
I wish Captain Kirk all the best and a safe trip.
Hi.
I have to make a confession.
The last thing that I would consider doing is sit atop a hugh candle with my ass strapped to a 100 tons of hydroxyzine and liquid O2.
I’d rather be drinking beer and eating Buffalo wings.
But that’s just me.
5.56mm
I wear a red shirt to the job just about every day as a running gag.
When I don’t, people ask questions.
At Shatner’s age, having a bad health result from the rigors of launch is more likely than not, yes?
But then, dying in orbit...maybe he’s okay with that.
(Would kinda suck for everyone else on the ride.)
It just fits that he goes up.
