Hello FRiends,
So…many of you know I’m in CT. I’ve been homeless with my Jack Russell since January. I spent some time in Florida but now I’m back. I had some medical setbacks so I’m pretty much starting again.
I can’t find a place to live, and we’re going to be out on the street for the winter, which isn’t going to be good. Can anyone steer me toward a rental, pretty much anywhere in the country?
I’m hoping for CT or FL, but I’m pretty desperate.

Your best bet is to look for a room to rent in a group house. That has to be the cheapest route to take.
No children, siblings you can stay with until you get back on your feet?

It’s not the rent amount believe it or not. It’s just the insane market here. I only came across one boarding house, and it had a one year wait list. Absolutely amazing. I look around and send emails and phone calls and most times don’t even get the courtesy of a response.
Unfortunately No. My family is surprisingly not helpful.

I was willing to pay up to $1500 a month, and I am currently working. I am a computer person, which I can do anywhere.

If you have to choose between CT and FL, why would you even consider CT for the winter?

Amen to that. Part of my medical issues include losing a leg, and I am terrified I’m going to fall during the winter. The only reason I came back is because my family wanted me here to “help” me, though I’m still waiting on that.
I really loved the Panhandle. It felt like home. I miss it all the time.
You can find good places in the Midwest for that kinda of money. Expand your horizons and you shouldn’t have any problems.

I strongly suggest any state with no state income tax, then.
There are plenty of inexpensive places in Texas, Tennessee, and Nevada that would be low cost and have solid Internet (and no taxation of your income).
In Texas, look for a sparsely populated eastern county, as property taxes will be substantially lower, due to how a court case came out 20 years back (it made higher income counties pay school taxes for lower income counties). As you can tell, we looked into homes, there.
