No, you guys are out of control. Content creation, in its majority, is probably not p***. It’s probably not even sex oriented.
A great deal of it is but probably not the majority. Twitch is the home of hundreds of thousands of content creators. There are chefs sharing recipes and actually doing the cooking on camera live for their audience. The audience subscribes to his or her channel at $5 per month. Twitch is owned by Amazon and if the viewer is Amazon Prime the $5 comes out of the annual Prime fee oh, so it costs the viewer no additional money. But the content creator gets half of it, because twitch takes the other half
Cooking is just an obscure example. Twitch originated with kids playing video games on camera, and when they were the best of those players they would share tips with their viewers who might be stuck at some part of the game. The subscriptions flowed donations flood and six figures per month absolutely possible. Not even rare. Frequent.
Game playing is still the majority of Twitch content creation, and those creators are not kids anymore. Six figures per month brought in the 20 and 30 and 40 year olds. Austin Texas has become twitch streamer Central and the big names are buying a house for cash after about six months, after taxes. That’s why they’ve gathered in Austin. Their numbers are so big they wanted to dodge state income tax.
So content creation is entertainment. Simply that. This year is the World Chess Championship, and chess has become huge on Twitch. Chess is its own subcategory of Journalism and cult figures. Sponsor show up and sponsor online chess tournaments and the winner is become Superstars.
The women players do not play in bikinis. By the way, Twitch, being part of Amazon, forbids nudity. There is so much money out there being made that the women are very much conscious of that rule. You will find a lot of cleavage on Twitch, but those women are constantly tugging their blouse up higher to protect their six-figure incomes
People should look up a few videos that go into what some of these content creators that have YouTube channels make.
I watch a couple of YouTube channels of people sailing around the world and documenting their experiences along the way...
Two in particular are SV Delos and Sailing Doodles, the Delos Channel is estimated to make 500-700k annually, from their YouTube channel, Patreon Users and Merchandise....not a bad way to make a nice living sailing around the world...
Not Guilty!
Agreed
Grampa always said “What this world needs needs is a few more $5 dollar Hookers,”
I don’t watch twitch but I do watch the Botez sisters on youtube. They play chess and stuff. And they live in Austin.
It’s a step above blogging anyway.
If exhibitionism makes a woman a whore, sure, but them most decent-looking women would be guilty.
Or maybe you’re like many here who associate any sexual acts by females as being a whore.
Exhibitionism is regarded as sordid and immoral, but not merely Exhibitionism, its for pay. So whore is more accurate.
You probably don’t really have knowledge of culture not steeped in a gutter to realize this.
A woman a few hours away from us would give horse riding lessons. She would drive to a different location and have 6-7 appointments per day at $65 hr. A few years back she went on you tube. She does so well on you tube she quit her job as a grant writer and stopped having individual lessons. Now has 2 professional videographers filming and editing her videos
Second time they got me with that one this week.
Really bad filter use...head almost as big as her torso...unless it’s Freak Little People tagged.
Works at fifteen clubs a day.
Pretty much describes Drudge.
Grandpa was right. But now its $300.00/Inflation!
The Botez girls are HUGE on Twitch. It is their primary income.
Alex is a Stanford grad and holds a WFM chess title, in addition to being pretty. Her younger sister got straight As in HS and applied to all the top schools during the virus. They cut back freshman class acceptances — because of the virus. She is angry and sad and may not go to university at all, and Alex does not disagree. Streaming is much more money than she would make in a conventional job regardless.
All this is learned from them streaming. Their editing team making the youtube videos make them to try to match Google’s algorithm and get them on more “Recommended” lists. So background stuff on the girls is edited out.
They occupy an odd sort of niche in chess. They are very big, very popular and in the context of top play, mediocre. Their ratings are 2300 and 2100 in a world of 3000 rated players. Those 3000 rated players do not get anywhere near their views on Twitch and they are occasionally angry. There has always always always, even pre internet, been drama around chess. Now is no different. 2300 and 2100 is better than 80ish% of players in the world, but top 20% means nothing at the top levels.
Watching chess is boring. Their videos are a lot of fun. They are offering entertainment and they deliver. Fun videos. Not to mention, they are very pretty girls, which makes watching easier than some ugly dude.
I think your right, chess is boring for most. But the world championship will get big money sponsorship. It’s all the reputation for intellect, so Goldman Sachs and JPM toss some money that way.
The girls are called “not great chess players, but great for chess players” — because of attracting viewers, which attracts sponsors.
How many here are “content creators?.... : )
