I kept getting a blank page with “nothing to see here, move along” in the upper right corner so...

Here’s the Amazon page for the series.

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=black+company+glen+cook&crid=I9X065AVB6X1&sprefix=black+company%2Caps%2C220&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_2_13

Excellent and fun books.

Not Bad Company, one of the Super Groups of the 70’s.

Really good books. Met Mr. Cook about 20 years ago in Philly. Good guy - he had been in the Navy attacked to a Marine unit, and so knew how troops actually related to each other.

Croaker is one of my favorite character in that genre.

The Black Company is a great series. You might like “Passage at Arms” for a space-war submarine story, too. That one leads into the Starfishers trilogy.

Glen Cook is one of my favorite sf & fantasy authors. We have all of his books. One of these days I need to reread the Garrett P.I. series.

Book 1of4

Black Company series

“With the Black Company series, Glen Cook single-handedly changed the face of fantasy - something a lot of people didn't notice and maybe still don't. He brought the story down to a human level, dispensing with the cliche archetypes of princes, kings and evil sorcerers. Reading his stuff is like reading Vietnam War fiction on peyote.”

I read a few in that series when they first came out. They were OK, but I actually enjoyed his Garrett, P.I. series more.

I’ve read A Passage at Arms and most of his other stuff, though not the Garrett series. I did really like he Dread Empire series.

You’ll probably like Garrett, too. (If you ever read any Nero Wolfe stories, you’ll recognize the Dead Man.)

The thing is that I ran across Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files before I picked up my first Garrett, and I just preferred Dresden. I do have Garrett on my list somewhere, though I have a lot.of catching up to do.

I read the entire Garrett series at least once per year ... what a great series.

Harry Dresden is good, too. I have read the first few, but my wife owns and has read the entire series. One of these days...

Thanks for the series suggestion. I stopped reading most Sci-Fi/Fantasy novels when the authors jumped on the Woke Bandwagon, producing crap where whiny non-heroes go off to other realms to spread their uselessness. Drop Conan into this era and see him overwhelmed by a flitty soyboy book editor with HIV issues.
