General Mark Milley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, prevented Donald Trump from invoking the Insurrection Act against Black Lives Matter during their 2020 riots.
Milley, according to Bob Woodward and Robert Costa’s new book, ‘Peril,’ drastically minimized the riots to Trump, suggesting that they were mostly centered upon the use of “spray paint.”
Despite the violent protests spreading across the country like wildfire, Milley insisted that they had only impacted two cities and were peaceful, echoing CNN’s absurd description of the riots as “fiery, but most peaceful.”
“They used spray paint, Mr. President, that’s not an insurrection. […] We’re a country of 330 million people. You’ve got these penny packet protests,” Milley told Trump.
Milley reportedly informed Trump that most of the riots drew just about 300 people and that they paled in comparison to the 1968 Washington riots sparked by Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination and the Battle of Fort Sumter in 1861, which kicked off the Civil War.

Or Romney or McCain.
Sometimes a bad choice is the only choice?
Dallas Texas 2006, during war time, under Republican George Bush.
500,000 illegal aliens march on Dallas Texas pushing foreign flags in our faces and while making demands and threats. All while Bush celebrated Cinco De Mayo up in the White House...During war time. And this was happening in every major cities. All emboldened by Bush.
Not sure if you are saying me personally because I didn’t vote for Romney.
But guess what..it didn’t change anything.
I’m talking about Bush. Try to keep up.
BTW nearly everything you said about Bush was though the benefit of hindsight.
Oh, ya mean like you and others here mocking and bad mouthing Trump’s decisions in hindsight?
Got it!
I was responding to your lesser of two evil statement.
Try to juggle two thoughts at one time.
Oh, ya mean like you and others here mocking and bad mouthing Trump’s decisions in hindsight?
Huh? I have been a early supporter of Trump. And nothing has changed.
You seem to be having imaginary arguments with yourself?
See the tagline.
From Generals to Genitals — America’s Woke Military
“believe Woodward or believe Milley really did what Woodward says he did?”
Woodward has nothing but speculation and is a journalistic hack. But I can do better than that. Here is how the process is done for the military chiefs of staff as per Col Dave Butler:
“All calls from the Chairman to his counterparts, including those reported, are staffed, coordinated and communicated with the Department of Defense” as well as the U.S. security and intelligence community’s interagency pipeline, Butler said.”

So the calls, part of his job, were like every call like it witnessed and recorded. That’s a lot more than Woodward did with his unnamed 200 witnesses that I’ll bet have no idea what happened.
Who I believe is not a problem,. Who the public is believing is closer to the toss up. And there is no question in my mind how it happened. He never could have gotten away with it the way Woodward spun it.

Oh brother. He was impeached because he tried to cover it up. Everyone acknowledges he had nothing to do with the break in, but it’s the cover up and lying afterwards that did him in. You can’t blame the deep state. Nixon did this himself. It was the tapes that did him in. If he had not recorded his Oval office conversations, he would have made it through his second term.
Are you suggesting that Trump knew that, and then deliberately hired a sociopath to be Chairman of the JCS?
No guessing involved.
In my very first comment on this thread, I asked when was the last time the Democrats made a mistake about a senior level appointment?
Answer: never
Milley and John Kelly were Obama Generals, and Trump promoted both of them.
If you were too young to vote, or a non-citizen, or in jail, who did you want to vote for in 2000 and 2004?
Even Trump can be conned - perhaps a uniform helps.
Would you yourself believe that most if not all the people you meet in a certain area are high-functioning sociopaths?
I would question my paranoia levels if I had that thought.
But it apparently is what it is.
In any event, the President can just leave the office unfilled, and ask the JCS to report directly to him.
Or, if he cannot trust the JCS, the President can selectively assign a group of Colonels and LTCs he does trust to sit in on every JCS meeting, and to read all the JCS documents and correspondence, and then report directly to him in the White House.
The Executive Branch - and specifically the President - have enormous statutory and legal discretion about the way they perform their job of enforcing the law.
Unfortunately, most Republican Presidents are too inept or too frightened to use that discretion.
Democrat Presidents, on the other hand, are completely fearless, and they do not care if they get slapped down occasionally.
They are not especially brave. It's just they have nothing to be afraid of since they know that the only vote RINOs will cast is for another drink from their lobbyists.
