The Big 12 is basically going to be the equivalent of Conference USA without Texas and OU.

UTA is the University of Texas at Arlington.

I already know the answer. Was wonder if any UT naysayer knew. Apparently not. So yeah ... Arkansas beat A&M during the ags last year in the Big12. Did that stop them? Nope.

UTA. Not to be confused with a UTI.

UT Arlington hasn't had a football team since 1985.

Florida doesn’t look like a threat to the GaDawgs this season.

Lifelong Hogs fan here. One of the most impressive games I’ve ever seen from them. But, can’t help to wonder how different things might have gone if that muffed punt at the beginning had gone the other way..... yikes.

Not real sure how this idea came up that “Texas” cannot play in the SEC based on this game. TU and Arkansas were long-time members of the SouthWest Conference, played nearly every year for decades. TU normally won, as they won most SWC games against most SWC opponents.

SEC “dominance” of “collegiate” football is strong now, but not always in the past.

As a Gator Fan and SEC Fan, I hope the end result of this conference consolidation is an end of influence for polls and selection committees....

I would be fine with 4 large conferences who all have conference championship games, which would be the first round of the playoffs....so long as you win your way into the conference championship game, regardless of record, you are in the playoffs...

So 8 teams would make the playoffs, the 4 winners would advance to the semifinals and then ultimately the championship game...

No Polls, No Selection Committees...

^This^

That's what I love about college ball ... a team can get dominated by a team one season and then turn around the next season and dominate them ... no matter their record. Case in point ... Texas/Oklahoma is rarely ever a safe bet for either team. One team can be having a stellar year and the other a so-so year, but the rivalry can still be an amazing game where the underdog wins.

Gosh, I miss the Texas/A&M games ... those were always the same way. So much fun to watch.

. . . he only had the chance to score because ND fumbled while driving with 3 minutes left.

Formally, “Texas” is The University of Texas at Austin. As al_c notes, there is no UT Arlington football team. Yes, UTA typically refers to UT Arlington, but the comment was based on UT referring to U Tenn Knoxville, and that U Texas needed to fix their abbreviation. UT Arlington is, after all, part of the U Texas system.

There’s still Georgia, Alabama, and A&M to worry about.

Texas beats A&M them twice for every one time M&A pulls out a victory against UT (76–37–5).

Gilmore was at University of Jacksonville in Jacksonville, FL. Jacksonville State is in Jacksonville, AL, about 15 miles north of Anniston. Charley Pell used to coach there years ago and later at Florida

Texas is NOT part of the SEC.

Texas A&M is a member of the SEC, and they have held their own since joining the conference. Ranked 7th this year.

But, the SEC is a different animal. Over the decades, I’ve heard a number of coaches that joined an SEC staff comment how surprised they were at how seriously football was taken in the SEC.

Bill Curry (Baltimore Colts player, coach at GA Tech) took over the Alabama job. He told the story of meeting a mild and meek little old lady—the stereotype southern belle. When they parted, she leaned in and growled in his ear: you better damn well beat Auburn.

The first pro sports didn’t hit the south until the mid-sixties. Until then, college football was the ONLY sports in the South. Consequently, it became intense.

Georgia’s last coach had winning records and routinely had them competing for conference championships. He was fired, because they weren’t competing for national championships.
