September 11, 2001 was a preventable tragedy in a long line of preventable tragedies. So was the disorganized withdrawal from Kabul, which could have been prevented if the Biden administration hadn’t put too much faith its evaluation of the durability of the Afghan government, and instead held onto Bagram as an insurance policy. Seven decades of preventable tragedies have taken a heavy toll on American lives, American treasure, and the American psyche. They have done little to change the structure of American power. There is no denying that 9/11 changed the lives of millions of people, mostly for the worse. But in the broader scope of history, it didn’t change a thing.

Yes, we now have the Patriot Act, DHS, and TSA.
Who needs freedom anyway?...
Yes it did. It worked exactly as Bin Laden said it would. It has emboldened the jihadists, and divided Americans, half of which lament “forever wars.” The fight continues, but only one side is gearing up for battle.
Not for the good.
Those repressive measures are now "normal" to the generation that grew to adulthood since then.
Yes. Practitioners of the religion that inspired the deadly attacks were promoted to victim status. A mosque was built near Ground Zero. Innocent non-terrorists were subjected to invasive searches in airports.
I think we lost everything that day.
We were headed down a path to make good changes for a few days ... and then Bush announced that “Islam is a religion of peace”, and we started to coddle the people who want to kill us.
So 9/11 changed things, but not for the better.
In the long run it made American life much worse by giving government more unchecked power. Something that will only be undone by collapse or war.
America,and Americans, first.
No. All that’s needed to answer the question definitively is to note that this nation elected Barack HUSSEIN Obama a mere 7 years after September 11, 2001. Obama was an avowed, self-professed Marxist...said so in one of his early autobiographies. He also was educated for at least part of his growing years in Muslim schools.
It proved that when people say “never forget”... they will.
It seems that someone doesn’t like your source and tag-bombs it with derogatory keywords every time. Wonder why, since it looks to me like most other blog sites that are posted here many time a day, and unlike many gives info about their editorial team, which includes people from Cato, Heritage Institute, and other conservative organizations. And they give you the ability to request that your personal information not be sold.
Stating their issue would be more appropriate than passive aggression.
Thanks to the idiot GWB, Americans think Islam is a religion of peace.
And not a natural born citizen and thus ineligible.
ALL of our elected and appointed threw out the Constitution.
Yep, it expanded the surveillance state, let the President declare unilateral wars without consulting Congress, and let the President unilaterally order executions of non-combatants on foreign soil (that we were not at war with), including of US citizens. So there’s that...
Which wars began without consulting Congress?
