Meltdown of a Superpower
Steyn Online ^ | August 22, 2021 | Mark Steyn

Posted on 08/22/2021 12:48:10 PM PDT by CheshireTheCat

A week after the Fall of Kabul, the flailing hegemon continues to embarrass itself:

America's official deadline for total withdrawal from Afghanistan is August 31st, so half the remaining time has already elapsed, and in that time, according to the Department of Defense, it has evacuated just 2,500 Americans - or about 350 per day. That seems an under-performance - or, as The New York Post's front-page headline distills it, "DUMKIRK".

The soi-disant "superpower" now resembles one of those stories you see from time to time on Eyewitness News: the 700-lb bedridden guy unable to get up, even to go to hospital, and requiring the fire department to slice off the upper wall of the house just to winch him out of there. The inability of Lloyd Austin, Thoroughly Modern Milley, Tailspin Taylor and the other beribboned buffoons of the Potemtagon to adapt swiftly and effectively to ground conditions that are changing hour by hour is as telling as anything.

It is not just that General Milley and the Joint Buffoons of Staff cannot plan; they cannot execute. Compare the 2,500 Americans evacuated from Kabul over this last week to the 7,000 Americans and allies choppered out of Saigon in just nineteen hours. Can Milley do anything in nineteen hours other than call his tailor and order up his next row of ribbonry?

The Taliban know an American humiliation when they see one, and for the moment they're content to let Austin and Milley and the rest of Washington's worthless elite dig deeper. Aside from that, the mullahs are waggish enough to tease western media with hints of a "broad-based government", although we all know that in the end the broad-based government won't be based on broads....

"After the US abandonment of Bagram air base, the Germans began moving their people out last month, quietly and without fanfare."

That should have been a clue.

from my homepage

I have been advocating for several years a policy I call ‘embaseees’. Embassy + AirBase —> EmBASEeees. We go into a terrorist country, clear out their taliban equivalent, then withdraw to very large Embassies, perhaps 3 of them. Have them big enough to encompass a military airbase where we can use it for decades on end to conduct anti-terrorism operations. As long as the ‘host’ country aint killing Americans then we let them have self-sovereignty. Kind of like how we operated in the Phillipines for decades. We could even have an intermediate zone that we patrol but it would be autonomous. Let them have their taste of freedom. A referendum every 10 years to see how large the boundaries of the intermediate autonomous zone should be.

Our military is a woke joke.

And it all goes back to ignoring the Constitution and allowing the ineligible Kenyan from Indonesia to corrupt our ENTIRE government.

BOTH parties own that.

Steyn is just too gloomy today. He should look at the bright side — our troops have all selected a personal pronoun and have been taught what pronoun to use when addressing their fellow soldiers.

Not a meltdown: a snowflakeification … a Too-Nice Age ... an Impuritanism … a Red Wimptober.

Never would have seen the light of day had FDR honored his oath of office rather than kick the Constitution to the curb,

“Ooh, and the new host of Jeopardy has just resigned in disgrace because he said something about “boobies” on a podcast and suggested that women in one-piece bathing suits look “frumpy” - whereas the actual boobies at the Pentagon will never have to resign in disgrace, and they never look frumpy because every cock-up comes with another rainbow row of diversity ribbons.”

Ouch!

Steyn is the man.

Today’s US Military.

Too many General Milleys and too few General Pattons.

Iow … Roman forts for the 21st century.

Problem is they never come out of the hills and it would be like the French Foreign Legion.

Now … heh … if I was running things the purpose of a “pull out” would be to get them feeling safe enough to come down from the hills … where they could again be killed much easier and in larger numbers. You see, if there’s hills then others besides the bad guys can potentially hide in them.

People forget that the left has long lamented that the US was the lone super power. The competition was never going to catch up, so the US had to be brought down a bunch of notches.

Whatever the left touches, it dstroys. And that is by design. Then there are the globalists, who were scared silly by Trump's popularity and "America First" agenda, and so they accelerated their efforts to kill the US as a superpower.

It's looking more and more like whatever they have planned for us, we're gonna hafta shoot our way out of. How that willl end, I have no idea.

Good tactic.

What's the strategy it's meant to support? Do you want to govern Afghanistan?

Milley being the chief woker had his priorities reversed. Was the word SIR ever allowed to be used conversing with a male trooper?

Conservatives have been saying, for my entire life (starting with Reagan) that America is back...yet we keep ‘electing’ America-hating Leftists.

We’re pretty much at the point that if we want some credibility in the world, it will take helicopters.

Mark is too charitable compared to my sentiments, but he expresses them much more eloquently and without the profanity mine would be laced with.
