A trio of tropical disturbances are developing in the Atlantic basin and should be closely watched next week. Two of the disturbances have the chance of forming into tropical depressions in the next five days.
July was a quiet period after an active start (June 1) to the 2021 Atlantic hurricane season, but statistically, the busiest part of the hurricane season begins on Aug. 20. It seems a significant uptick in storms is ahead.
The first disturbance is a low-pressure system over the west-central Atlantic. The second disturbance is more east and is moving westward in the central tropical Atlantic. The third distance is near Africa.
Last week, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) upgraded the number of named storms to 21 from its prior forecast of 15 in May.
NOAA is now forecasting at least ten hurricanes and up to five major ones with winds above 100 mph.
“While the tropics have been slow the past few weeks, NOAA forecasters believe a busy hurricane season lay ahead,” said Matthew Rosencrans, the lead seasonal hurricane forecaster at the U.S. Climate Prediction Center."
The 2020 hurricane season saw a record 30 storms, with several major ones striking Louisiana.
Keep an eye on tropical development in the Atlantic Basin. The next tropical storm will be named Fred.

How many tropical storms and/or hurricanes happened in the past that no one heard of because they happened before weather satellites? And thus were NEVER counted because they were born, lived, and died without ever touching land.
I’m sure many were never accounted for, for the reasons you mention.
Let’s hope and pray that there is no significant impact from the hurricanes.
There have been some big ones in recent years. But the predictions after Katrina in 2005, that we would see huge numbers of destructive hurricanes year after year, hasn’t materialized.
I know we were supposed to believe that we would see much destruction, so it could be blamed on global warming.
Hope it stays quiet here at the OBX NC. 9/10 is mid way in the season. All fingers crossed.

40 years ago I met a guy that was staying in his G Grandparents place in Ft Laud. S of Oakland N of Sunrise on the ocean. It was a real neat Pecky Cypress bungalow built in the early 1900. Right out of CasaBlanca
Built before there were any bridges to what was a barrier Island. The grand parents got there by boat.
They had something to do with Flagler Rail Road,cant recall and per the owner/grandson came up from Miami to this paradise for a getaway.
Any way we talked about what it must have been like to be sitting around your oasis and watching the weather change one day, buy the minute and then having it turn into a Cat 3/4 or five hit with no prior warning.
Must have been pretty wild especially if it hit after sundown which so may do.

They all start in Africa. Ugh. Does anything good come from that continent?

1st one is looking more likely (to become a cyclone), 2nd one marginal, 3rd has fizzled as you noted.
Imagine going on your way in the middle of the ocean in the age of wooden sailing ships only time find that the storm approaching turns out to be a hurricane. That was described in one of the Horatio Hornblower novels. The storm that came up after the battle of Trafalgar in 1805 did as much damage to the British fleet as the French & Spanish ships did in the actual battle. Almost all the prize ships they took were lost in the storm.
Looks like #1 may pay me a visit next week unless “Cuber” (JFK dialect), slows it down. Xtra water today to beat the rush, just in case
