Not particularly unprecedent. The bottom of Grand Canyon is pretty low and so it is hot there.
Most visitors stay on the rim, where it is a lot cooler.
Some idiots hike down with no water, equipment and/or stamina. It is easy to go down, but then they cannot get up from there!

Wow. That’s about normal for the GC this time of year. We’ve had an unusually mild summer this year however. It was cool enough a few weekends ago to spend the day outside in the valley. That just doesn’t happen in the summer. As it is the heat is very manageable.
