Simone Biles on Tuesday withdrew from the Olympic women’s gymnastics competition due to concerns about her mental health. Now, the most decorated female gymnast is receiving an outpouring of criticism and vitriol from people who couldn’t do so much as a cartwheel if their lives depended on it.

So when did she start having these doubts about herself?
Could be she’s under a lot of pressure from people and groups to “represent” and be a “role model.”
If strangers came up to me all the time to say “we’re counting on you” or “you need to represent,” that would probably play on my nerves and put me off my game, too.
Agreed but we also need to point out the elements of sports these days leading to all these unnecessary pressures. (Applies to more than Simone.)
Overuse of social media
Over commercialization and branding of personality
Hyper-sexualization of the female athlete’s image masking as empowerment
Exhaustion of woke activism :(
She took up a slot that could have gone to a better athlete who had fire in the belly.
She blew it. Snowflake.
I’m not talking about proud Americans who wish her to do well in the games. I’m talking about political groups with an agenda to push using her as their vehicle for achieving some political end.

COVID, lockdowns, sexual abuse...
Our young people don’t stand a chance. The crazy Marxist Dems have fear-porned them. I feel great empathy for our young. God help them.
Sadly, I don’t think the woke will care if they damage Biles or derail her career. Heck, they can just pin the blame on the right, and the MSM will gobble up the story as gospel.
Article is just a bunch of dribble.
“Hypersexualization of the female athlete’s image masking as empowerment”
ABSOLUTELY 100%
I feel sorry for such girl’s who now feel the double pressure to not only be a world class athlete, competing away from home, but now you are expected to look like either Miss America or Cardi-B, whichever social image fits your peer group.
It is not a sin or a crime not to be ‘beautiful’.
Same as for men, it’s not a crime to be un-handsome (thank God in my case!).
That’s just nonsense.....she’s been at this for years and knows well the pressures involved. You don’t wait til an Olympics moment where you’re to perform ‘as a team’ member to announce you’re quitting. Especially when you’ve bumped another candidate prior.
Yep....all those trying to cover for her know she had plenty of time to address her issues long long before taking the stage at the Olympics.
Interesting the article mentions she wasn’t necessarily eager to represent America.
She is rather old for the sport. 24.
My gosh yes.....it was I, I, I, I, and what she wanted. She got what she wanted and left her team sitting with her mess.
“whenever you get in a high-stress situation you freak out”
This long-standing problem needed to be mentioned & overcome earlier.
I saw some of her work on TV and it was very impressive.
Yes, she is getting old for her sport. This may well have been her last Olympics anyway.
She knows all about the pressures of the world stage at the Olympics, having won many gold medals at the Rio games in 2016. She had been to the pinnacle of her chosen field. Maybe she just doesn’t have that desire to compete anymore.
Weak losers had no business on the team if they can’t compete and stick with it. Too many quiters, prima donnas, and agenda folks. The US Olympic team is a disastrous joke. Can’t believe anyone would waste a second watching them. Even my time to write this is wasted time.
