Yep. Anyone that takes the lyrics personally needs to take a good hard look in a mirror - and rethink their life.
The music world sure has changed due to the internet and youtube.
Digitally released July 2nd but played live since March.
Hit #1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs on July 17th. (9th debut ever to hit #1)
Hasn’t been released on radio yet.
Radio air time used to be the requirement to hit the charts. Now it’s last in line in order of importance.
With everyone having a phone, this song like many others, hit youtube as live recordings from people’s phones before any kind of official release.
A musician can actually make a living without ever releasing a CD. Just need a good following on youtube and the ability to sell individual songs on websites like soundcloud. From there you can get live gigs.
Yeah, it’s pretty mild.
They can’t find the fricken’ door because of all the illegals Bid*n is running through it.
Thanks! That guy’s got a great voice IMHO. I heard something about him “going country” recently. Not much of a country fan, but I’ll have to check it out.
Yeah he was alt-rock but you can only do music aimed at angry teens for so long. I think he went through a change when his grandpa died. His grandpa raised him and grandpa listened to old country like Meryl Haggard, George Jones.

Country Boy with George Jones singing a few verses and Charlie Daniels(for a couple of seconds) Endless Summer is another good one. I’m not huge on country either though I do like Southern Rock.
Country Boy’s actually the first country song he wrote and on a dare from his plumber/friend.(Bet you can’t even write a country song — reply was F you) Wrote it in 20 minutes on what he calls the magic back porch. pretty good to write your first country song and have it be good enough to get George Jones and Charlie Daniels to contribute.
His high notes can be a bit ear piercing but he’s kept his voice for 20+ years and has the ability to hit lower notes now than when younger. He’s got real good vocal control.
The wife and I liked some of the alt-rock 20 years ago for a short time, including the first couple of Staind albums.
bttt
There was a song on the second album where he sings about feeling a little guilty for being happy about having made it and becoming rich all of the sudden. Shows he has some character. That was all grandpa’s doing. I guess he was born in Vermont and his parents were hippies. They broke up not too long after than and for some reason, he ended up with grandpa in Western MA which is actually rural. He’s got a song called Grandpa’s Gun about inheriting a double barrel shotgun(and probably most everything else). Guess he first shot it when he was 13. (and it ain’t for sale)
Always got a flag behind him on stage and wore a MAGA hat for a long time. I got bored yesterday and did some research.

“Love Me, I’m A Liberal”- Phil Ochs
I cried when they shot Medgar Evers
Tears ran down my spine
I cried when they shot Mr. Kennedy
As though I’d lost a father of mine
But Malcolm X got what was coming
He got what he asked for this time
So love me, love me, love me, I’m a liberal
I go to civil rights rallies
And I put down the old D.A.R.
I love Harry and Sidney and Sammy
I hope every colored boy becomes a star
But don’t talk about revolution
That’s going a little bit too far
So love me, love me, love me, I’m a liberal
I cheered when Humphrey was chosen
My faith in the system restored
I’m glad the commies were thrown out
Of the A.F.L. C.I.O. board
I love Puerto Ricans and Negros
As long as they don’t move next door
So love me, love me, love me, I’m a liberal
The people of old Mississippi
Should all hang their heads in shame
I can’t understand how their minds work
What’s the matter don’t they watch Les Crain?
But if you ask me to bus my children
I hope the cops take down your name
So love me, love me, love me, I’m a liberal
I read New republic and Nation
I’ve learned to take every view
You know, I’ve memorized Lerner and Golden
I feel like I’m almost a Jew
But when it comes to times like Korea
There’s no one more red, white and blue
So love me, love me, love me, I’m a liberal
I vote for the democratic party
They want the U.N. to be strong
I go to all the Pete Seeger concerts
He sure gets me singing those songs
I’ll send all the money you ask for
But don’t ask me to come on along
So love me, love me, love me, I’m a liberal
Once I was young and impulsive
I wore every conceivable pin
Even went to the socialist meetings
Learned all the old union hymns
But I’ve grown older and wiser
And that’s why I’m turning you in
So love me, love me, love me, I’m a liberal
I wonder if the copyright precludes updating the song with more modern references; if you’re under fifty some of it is unfamiliar.
